It looks like san mai with wrought iron and high carbon, yes? And, yes it is sick, crazy sick. I think we should see the whole knife.

that IS amazing!

Knife isn't done yet! Just finished out the blade only to 400 and did a quick etch.
You are correct about the high carbon - not the wrought.
But it IS a San Mai laminate.
Sort of looks like the coast of an Island in the ocean.
Now, this is sort of difficult to say, but I'm really looking at this knife at this point, and I may never finish it.
I don't know the last time I did not finish a blade, but this is the first one of these I've done and there's a tee-tiny little thing I am not comfortable with, so I may end up lighting the forge and making another one after lunch.
Everything doesn't always go smooth.

put a little frame around it, it's so pretty.

Karl,
It does look like an areal shot of a mountain coastline.

Really cool....I too, hope to see more of that treatment.

Elementry my dear Karl, it is knife blade made of unobtanium. Or a photograph of the time space continuim. It is cool.

Great looking job of welding that steel....blade looks fine from here. ;)

Not bad. Wadja spill on that blade? ;) :D

Lookin good, Karlmeister. Hurry up and finish it, willya?

That's a cool blade

Send it to me Karl :D

Well, man this is killing me.
First off, Jason, you are right, it's unobtanium. Unless, of course, you know how to get hold of Admiral Steel.

I just came in from forging my next one.

This one has this tiny little black line right down the center of the spine, that did not reveal itself until I etched it. I didn't even see it without my magnifying glasses.
I do believe I forged in a cold shut when drawing out the bar.
Really bumbs me out.
It may end up on my belt next month in Texas chasing wild hogs!
Here's what the blade looks like sanded only to 400 grit and a quick etch.

I'm not sure I understand whats wrong with it.. Shouldn't there be a dark line on the spine?

If you don't want it you can send it to me for testing!!! :) :) ;)

There is the 1095 core that is easily visible.
That's what you are referring to.

I just learned what the tiny little line is from a "secret" phone call.;)
I've already forged the next one and will be doing things a little differently on the next one.

That looks great to me - too bad it didn't pan out. Show us the next one soon as you can.

Roger

PS - This would look cool on a fighter or bowie-size blade.
