Worksharp has great customer service. Why do I say this? I've had a WSKO with blade grinder attachment for a little over a year. I was recently using it with the flat front platen when it just quit. I immediately sent off an email asking if it was still covered by warranty. I didn't get an answer , so after a few days I called the CS number. The rep found my email and I reply had been sent but somehow I never received it. I explained what happened and was immediately offered a replacement. He asked what speed I was using when the unit quit. It had been low-medium. He said that was the problem - if you run the machine at too low a speed for too long, it will overheat and burn out. So, the moral is to keep up the speed.
In any case, he asked me to cut off the power cord and email a photo showing it. I did so within 15 minutes and within thirty had a reply saying that the replacement would be mailed next day, That was Monday and I got the replacement today - just two days! Great customer service, especially since it was technically out of warranty. The warranty is for 1 year and I purchased it in February of last year. The rep did make it clear that if I burned out the replacement I would have to buy the next one, but that's OK. I do want everyone to know the great experience I had with Darex.

I have the same setup, and I use a low speed. How long is too long to run it at a lower speed? I've only had mine a few months. I like it because it does have slower speeds. So how long is too long?

I'd say I'd probably been running it for about half an hour. I was grinding to sharpen the clip on a new Bowie. I was careful to try and not bog down the belt but did a couple of times anyway. I did immediately ease up. Next time I'll run it faster and make sure to use a light touch and take enough time so neither the blade or machine over heats. The rep said low speed didn't generate enough air flow to cool the motoer sufficiently.

Thanks for the warning. I usually run it a few minutes then shut it down to check my work. It does get warm. I guess I'll have to run it at a faster speed.
