I questioned Ka-Bar Taiwan quality and this is what I got. My butt kicked.

And these are cheap Taiwan knives. Not the higher end priced like SOG offers. Next time I'm going to think twice before turning my nose up to Taiwan cutlery.

The tip broke off somewhere along the line. How beat up did the knife get from this foolishness. This is not a knife test. At least some of the Cold Steel Proof tests are reasonable. Sorry but this just proves that they made a big thick hunk of metal that can be beaten like a chisel. Take it out in the field and work with it for a few days then tell me it's the best thing since sliced bread.

All tips get broken off pretty easy. Go to their home page. They usually break up the tests into 10 minute videos and so forth. Even a Chinese made Cold Steel passed their tests better than the cheap Ka-bar linked above. Uh, BTW, the abuse proves the knife can take punishment. A lot of people get a pucker factor when someone pulls out a knife made in Taiwan. The videos show that a $30 Ka-Bar can take more punishment than you will give it in the field. Also, it wasn't a big thick hunk of metal. It was your average size large cheapo knife.

Take it out in the field and test it for a few days? Like carrying it and chopping some bamboo for a few days is somehow a better test than hammering this knife through treated 4x4 posts and so forth? Get real.

You know, I blame places like Pittsburgh for this sad state of affairs when it comes to imported knives by American companies. No labor unions in Taiwan to jack up the price of good steel. Now, everybody is in the bread line. Steelworkers in Pittsburgh as well as the sad sap in Taiwan that put together that cheap Ka-Bar beat to death.

There is a lot more to using a knife than beating it to death, like ergonomics edge retention, geometry, ease of sharpening. You should be able to accomplish cutting tasks with a minimum of force not by using a hammer and chisel. This proves nothing.

I don't use many production knives any more other than Chris Reeves and Strider.

What's with the Pittsburgh comment anyway? Who the F@#$ are you?

I was never in a union.

I blame places like Roswell, NM for fueling the imaginations of idiots who believe in farcical nonsense like UFO's. Does that apply to you?

Gentlemen, this is the SOG forum, not Whine & Cheese. A bit of mutual respect, discuss the knives involved, SOG or others, leave the Politics to the Arena, leave the insults in the street. Thanks!
