so, I did a bit of searching on various sites online, and finally found my way to this forum where I read up about 118s and how you can look at certain things to find out a rough estimate of what years certain BUCK knives were made. I found one entry that talked about inverted/upside down BUCK stamps on 118s, which I believe is what the case is with this particular 118...which, according to that post would mean that it was made around 1972...but then I got some other information from other sources that was different...so I became confused. So...I thought I would hop on here and pick your brains since you guys are far more experienced than I am on this subject :) I know absolutely nothing about knives, so forgive my ignorance about this lol.

I know that the knife had to be made sometime before 1977 because my Great Uncle died that year, and the knife was his.

Looks like the knife is in pretty rough shape to me, but I guess if it's close to 40 years old, it could be worse lol. Anyhow! Any input from you guys would be greatly appreciated :)

Nice old 1972 118 in honorably used condition.

Something to cherish, for sure.

:)

Some say (and with good reason) that this is the best all-around fixed blade that Buck ever made.

Hard to beat it.

Can't add anything about your knife that hasn't been posted already other than it's a nice one. Hope you enjoy it for many years to come and welcome to the forum.

Thank you for the replies :) I guess the other sources definitely weren't as reliable as the posts on here! :) :) and yes, it definitely will be cherished. It's the only thing I have to remember him by...no way this thing is going anywhere :)

And thank you for the welcome, Badhammer. I think I'll stick around and keep myself busy with some reading on here...looks like I could learn a lot from you guys :)
