Wondering if I should create a monster...

I've always wanted a Steel handled Endura with a VG-10 blade and an FRN handled Endura with an AUS-6 blade. The former would be to my tastes and the latter would be a great beater.

Is there any reason you couldn't just buy one of each and switch the blades out? Yes I realize I'll void the warranty this way but dammit I'm a scientist! :D

I'm just curious though how I could possibly dissassemble the handles without tearing them or the pins apart. I'm also wondering if despite the identical blade shapes if the tang isn't shaped slightly differently where the straddle meets the saddle.

I'm not comitting to this project as the Great Spyder would probably smite me for creating not one but two abominations but I am curious if anyone has any thoughts, advice, experiences, or feces to throw at me.

Before anyone asks, WHY think about doing this?

Because I can. :D

Since the Endura is riveted together, you would have to grind the head off (void warranty, of course), and replace it with another pin that could be peened over, or a bolt that could be nutted. On the SS model, the pin would have to be punched out with a small drift pin.
That being said, this will only work if the blades, lock notches, pivot hole position, etc. were identical on both blades.
Good luck!

Hi Deadmanwalking. No doubt you are not the only one that's had the thought. We've had the discussion here many times. It's a matter of "how many variations is it possible to inventory, and which combinations will work the best for the market?"

Regarding your particular mssion. The parts are not the same and they won't fit. Sorry.

Well it was a thought... I figured once you pried them apart the locks might be different.

It's okay though I think the new Endura will make me so happy I'll forget all about this idea. :D

i'd definately buy one of them :D

Me too. :)

I think the design of the Police lends itself to "stretching"...People do it with cars, so why not? I would at least make a limited run and see how they sell..

Well, you could take a VG-10 Endura and wrap the handle with aluminum foil. That gets you half way there! :D

For many people, myself included, the Police is not an optimal shape. It was the first Spydie that I ever bought and the one to turn me on to the others, but I never found the blade shape useful to me. It is much too long and narrow for day-to-day EDC utility work, which is what I expect of my chosen EDCs. If you want something like that for a utility knife, Spyderco makes much better choices, IMO. And the Police does not compare in design to the Endura, which has a rather deeper blade with more belly, at least my older ones do. The Endura is a great buy for the money!

Now, for those who want to go really big, there is always Camillus' CUDA MAXX line. The current one measures 5.5" and there is a 7" version due out, hopefully sooner than later. :( Connoting sadness at the time that I have been waiting for this knifes arrival, its gestation period would rival that of an elephant.

Precisely. I am intrigued by the Police model and I want one, but it's not a better version of a stainless Endura. It's a whole different animal.

What about the paramilitary. Blade almost the same size. Personally I think it's a better looking knife but you may not.
