Wonky Buck 501?

I procured myself a Buck 501 a couple of weeks ago, got it the other day. Right away I noticed that the nail nick was fairly sloppily done and one of the bolsters came pretty dull. I didn't/don't mind those issues so much but there is one thing the does concern me.

It opens a decent degree just by holding the blade, and if I hold it by the handle with the blade on the underside, it opens a little as well. If I shake it while closed, the blade audibly and visibly moves around and rattles. I don't have much experience with Bucks so I don't know if this sort of thing is standard fare. I gave it a good cleaning but that didn't help.

I've carried it a couple of times and it hasn't opened in my pocket or anything, nor do I think it will. But considering Buck's warranty, I don't see any reason not to send it in if its not the norm. But it could be, I wouldn't know.

Thanks,
Pete

As in one of the bolsters has sort of a smoky, dull quality, not mirror polished. Fairly matte. Non-reflective.

Ah Ha! That makes sense.
And I am sure it could be easily buffed or polished. Especially if you are sending it in.
If the lockbar spring is not working right, they may just send you back a replacement knife.

When you send it in, make sure to list everything you are concerned about on the knife. So nothing gets overlooked :)
They have done a wonderful job on the things I have sent to them.
