Yeah you dont want to be like me, bro... all self-employed and loving it because you berated your boss on an email to your wife, and he was monitoring you. It would be a pity to have to make knives for a living... ;)

Seriously, my friend, don't jeopardize your job with a young'un on the way. :)

well the IT guy just told me I was cool.....other people doing dumb stuff. The IT guy coached me building a guitar a few years ago so were sort of like buds. HE used to run 1/2 of the shop and used to give me hell! THEN one day I had had enough and blew up at him and he started ;aughing and ever since we have been pretty personal as far as work relationships can go.

I'll slack off some though on the forum posts untill I get a high speed conection at home. With dial up just uploading a picture and posting it takes like 15 miniuts. Thats too long to throw up a picture!!

man I thought by the header you were going or something?

hey I'm on dial up just condense those puppies some..

15 min's a picture  something is wrong, maybe with your buffer , have you cleared it lately? :)

Its my crappy connection at home. I get knocked off ALOT so to redial and repost it just adds up to more time wasted at home. I'll look into DSL.

Nahh, I aint going no where Dan :D Just have to adjust my posting habbit :)

I never know , not looking at dated threads and my memory
it makes for more things happening all the time that way thought.. :D

Hey Brian, that's not all bad. You'll like having a fast connection at home - except I'm willing to bet you'll spend a whole lot more time online than you do now! :D

They monitor our internet time at my employment too; we get a report each month listing how much time each person in the dept spent on the web. I'm usually in the top three but I never even look at this place from work!

I don't know what the arrangement is for your local DSL but around here it's all run through MSN. That leaves DSL out for me, no way am I going to support a convicted felon... So I use cable. I've been thinking about going satelite but cripes, that's like three times the cost of my cable service!

Brian

Call your phone company's technical support line and find out how far your phone is from the local switch. The further you are from the switch, the lower the quality of the signal at your house and the slower and less reliable your dial up will be. I think this applies to DSL also. I am 40000 ft from the switch and my DSL connection gets dropped from time to time and doesn't seem as fast at other people's house. At this distance, SBC guarantees only the minimum data rate for dial up. DSL is a clever way to push the bandwith well beyond what the twisted pair phone lines were originally designed to carry and seems to require optimum conditions to reach the maximum claims.

If you are far from your switch, you may want to consider what your local cable company has to offer. I will probably cost more but may be less agravating. The cable TV connection is inherently able to give you far more bandwith than you can get with DSL, without any of the tricks that DSL uses.

Good luck!

Phil

thanks for the advise guys!! I'll look into what may be best. I am just glad that me and the IT guy at work are buds so I get the scoop! They were angry at the recepionist for downloading music from Kaza :)

Yep, that's how it happens. Some fool takes advantage and ends a good thing for everyone. Same thing happened at my job.
