All to often I have found Khukuri's with handles dried up to the point of no repair.

I have made my own Wood Finish for rifle stocks and used it for years and it worked great so I thought it might have a use with Horn and Wood handled Khukuri's.

I wiped down half of my horn handled Khukuri's and they sucked the stuff up. Second coat took a bit longer and a grain pattern appeared in a few.

I have used this mix for year on rifle stocks and after time and buffing the grains have come out.

1 part Johnson's Paste Wax. 1 part BLO, 1 Part Minwax Cherry Stain. Heat on stove, mix well and let cool.

Wiped on and let sit for 12-24 hours and buff off. Repeat a couple times a year.

I like mineral oil myself. {Baby oil.] seen it bring life into 200 year old handles. {& there no solvents or colours in it.}

I Guess evryone has there favorites.;)

Mineral oil, balistol, renesance wax, marine tuff cloth. That stuff is all in ddean's stickey. I still look at it from time to time. Good reading.

I've tried a number of strange concoctions, some of which need to be mixed outdoors with good ventilation. Watco Danish Oil is as good as the best of them and is better than most, and works on any of the materials that HI has ever made.

It even technically protects metal handles, although I wouldn't expect it to bring the grain out. :)

Not everyone likes the paste wax. I use it on essentially figureless wood or handles that will see a lot of time in the kitchen. The finish will never improve while it's on (unlike a pure oil finish) but it's highly durable, easy to use, and one of those $5 cans lasts for something like thirty years if you're just doing knife handles.

I use mineral oil for my stag & bone handles, and pure tung oil for my wood handles & gunstocks (best I've found is from here: http://www.milkpaint.com/ ). I usually later buff these with Rennasance Wax...or even auto paste wax (Turtle wax w/ teflon, I believe is what I used last time) for my blued long guns. Others get wiped with a marine tuff cloth.

YMMV.
