This is a wood carver and whittler alert!
I was going to wait until I had used this set of knives for a month or so before doing a review but after recieving them as a Christmas gift from my wife and already using them with much enthusiasm and excitment on several small and one large carving project since opening them I simply saw no reason to wait!

If you are a wood carver or whittler or if you know someone that is and want to really do them right on a birthday, holiday or other occassion buy them this set of knives while they are still available.
Without a doubt these are the finest carving knives I've ever had and I have owned and used many at this point in my life. Words and pictures do not do these knives justice.
As I told A.G. in a letter to him before this post. He under promised and over delivered on this package. For the money they are just much more than you would expect. Simply put they would easily sell for double the asking price and I doubt anyone would complain at that once they used them.
Each knife, as well as the file and saw are hand made. The knives are razor sharp. The saw cuts on the pull as most Japanese saws do. They all have quality teak wood handles. The fit and finish is superb as is expected from and always seen from Seki City Japan cutlery.
They fit the hand like a fine surgical instrument and control is obviously incorprated into the design of these handles. They attest to the philosophy that less is sometimes best. Only years of using and making knives can produce products made this simply that work this well in the hand.
They come with instructions printed in Japanese. But for the experienced wood carver instructions on use and care are not gererally needed anyway.
You get a quality two layer box printed in English. A heavy gauge canvas wrap with heavy polymer inserts to keep the razor sharp blades secure. The wrap also comes with a velcro strap to keep the wrap closed. The blades are of high carbon steel with a black finish to help prevent rusting. Each blade is covered in multi layered paper to prevent damage to them during shipping. Also included in the package is a good supply of sand paper to smooth out your carvings.
I highly recommend these knives to anyone that likes to work with wood. You will not be disappointed. I have paid way more for sets that offered way less.
