Anyone here carved things out of wood like spoons, cups etc?
I'd be interested to see what you guys made.

Did my first attempt at a spoon today....
So just because I wanted to share this somewhere, here's my spoon WIP :)
Don't laugh ;)

Used beechwood, a folding saw, and Esee 3 and a curved chisel to make the hollow part of the spoon.
Sanded and oiled the thing in the end.

There's room for improvement... still I'm proud of it :D

Well, I for one would be glad to stir a pot around the campfire and feed myself with this spoon

Indeed. I think it's a good skill to carry.

There are 30 pages to sort through.;)

Nice work and link!

Thanks for the positive responses! :)
You guys made some great work!

I can use some advice, thinking about buying a Mora Erik Frost crookknife... but not sure which one to get for making spoons/cups.
I'm thinking I need the 162 (2 side sharpened, no point) or the 164 (one side sharpened, pointy).
Anyone with experience know what is best to start with?
I think the 163 is too flat for spoons/cups, can anyone confirm this?

I just started carving spoons this summer and I think it is an excellent pass time. I've enjoyed and learned from my failures as much as my "successful" spoons. I 2nd MrFixIt's recommendation of Deepwood Ventures. I bought a spoon knife and rough out knife; they're 1st class in my opinion.
I carved this spoon from eastern red cedar uaing the Deepwood Venture spoon knife and the pictured JK WoodKarver.

You wood carve with that tac knife? interested.
I have a couple morakniv knives that I use.

Love the thread as i have recently started carving spoons. On thing probably obvious that i have learned is to avoid the pith / center as it is prone to defects and cracking. It is best to stay off to one side. Also i have the pointed spoon knivfe u have pictured. Not sure its the best but it has been decent for me.
