Since we are all on the topic of wood inlays, what is everyones favorite wood choice? Now... if you have a wood inlay try to be impartial. Even though you may really like yours, maybe another wood is really your favorite. Or if you had extra dollars to buy another, what wood would it be.

Thanks...JT

I would have to say with all honesty C.A. buckeye and Dark Walnut.

I went with the Dark Walnut on my Damascus blade as it is very nice without looking out of place or OTT. Its about synergy if you ask me.:)

Hello, I thought it might be cool to see a Ivory inlayed sebenza......or perhaps because of its dense grain and bright whiteness English Holly. They both are beautiful and absolutely WHITE. The wood could most likely be a stabelised and thus aviod any expansion or contraction of the material.
Just another goofy idea!!! Later, JC ;)

California Redwood Burl and it's mine. :D

I may be partial, since this is the wood on the one I have, but desert ironwood has long been one of my favorites. Both of the large Sebbies I have owned have been in ironwood. Of course I still have the 2001 woodie, and wish I had kept the 2000 ironwoodie!

My other choice would have to be the walnut offering.

Yeah, Yeah, I second that ..:D Desert Ironwood is my favorite too. I just happen to have the other one that Art is talking about. It will never part from me. :o

It is beautiful. In fact I am admiring it now..

Love it.. DIW is the way to go.. Rich, dark, full bodied (hmm.. sounds like some beers that I like too).

Well.. Whatever color you go for, I have never found one that I didn't like :D

Hey guys,
Do I understand this right???? When you order your inlay,
you don't have a choice of the wood????
I like the California Buckeye!!!!
Thanks,

While you do not get a choice per say - as CRK seems to only have one wood avalible at any given time in each color (light/med/dark) - I could be wrong about this... Try this, you won't be dissapointed! ;) :D

My favorite is a small with Maple Burl inlays. I had a small with Madrone Burl however, sold it in favor the the Maple Burl with wild swirls and changing colors. Now to find a large with same wood?

Regards,
FK

Well...since this thread that I started is back up, I might as well tell you guys that I bought a Cal. Redwood Burl small Sebenza. It is a great knife. Smooth opening and the wood looks great.

It's a year 2000 with the old clip and let me tell you I don't mind the old clip at all. It seems pretty secure and it is smaller and more unobtrusive than the new one.

Desert Ironwood burl.
Cocobolo burl (pretty rare)
Selected pieces of redwood burl are nice.

It would appear that Chris uses very little, if any of those types of wood on his inlaid Sebs. To bad, most of them are beautiful and would add diversity to the seb line

Good question. I don't have a "woody" yet but snakewood or koa would be near the top of my choices. Fantasy wood: bristle cone pine.

For me it's Box Elder no question. I have other knives with many of the woods mentioned above and yeah, desert ironwood and redwood burl are VERY nice. But that beautiful golden color and fantastic grain of the Box Elder is hard to top. Since someone mentioned gary Graley, remember his small 1999 Box Elder 'Benza??? Flat out GEORGOUS!!!

Hello, I certainly agree that Box Elder is a hard one to beat. It's my favorite so far too.

(I would like to see a snakewood one though....that might stirrrr up the ranks):)
