Hey guys, Wanted to pop by and just show how good wood can be. As most of you know, I started here many many moons ago, posting little blocks of kingwood and figured maple I had stashed away from my highschool job at a wood shop. Ive grown just a little, and so has knife making. These are some of the woods I been working with lately.

Ive been finding fiddleback rosewood, afzelia xylay, burls from the world over and other beautiful goodies.

Happy holidays to everyone, and I hope you keep finding beauty in your work.

Stunning pieces.
Have you ever been around wild Persimmon? I know most fruit wood is generally soft but this seems firm and quite dense.

Persimmon is in the diospyros family (ebony) and is sometimes called American Ebony or White Ebony. It makes wonderful handles. It stabilizes well and sometimes hasnice grain and color patterns.

Woah, that's one big handle blank! Do you have a swimming pool full of p50 to quench the blade!? ;-)

Wow, absolutely BEAUTIFUL!!!! Number 6!!!!! I recently have come across some makers using Karelian Birch and I think it’s incredible. Any info on it?

Karelian and masur birch are two names for the same thing, a unique figure that occurs in birch trees. The best current research says unlike a burl, its actually a genetic mutation. The names mean the same thing, just weather its Russian or Scandinavian

It's easy to use, reasonably priced, looks good. Best pieces are expensive, though. Maybe a bit soft by uber knife nerd standards but knives with birch handles have survived centuries.

I'll bet when you cut up that LOG you cried from the sawdust. I know I would. Great stuff. If I was making presentation knives I'd be all in.
