How To Wood finish (teak oil)

I just finished modding my new opinel #7 with a burnt handle look. I’d like to thank a few people on my recent thread for helping me with that one. After getting the style I wanted I decided to get a nice look on the wood with a wood finish. I’ve never done this before but I knew we had some product in the house. All I had was teak oil and corona isn’t letting us go to other stores (lockdown) so I decided to just use it. I followed the instructions: sand wood, then coat, wait a couple mins, wipe of excess oil, repeat until desired finish is achieved. After 4 coats I decided it was enough. I waited a few hours after and yet the handle is still sticky. Is it meant to be that way? I searched up how to fix this and google said to rub white spirit on it. I did this and it’s still sticky. Is it the white spirit maybe? Does anyone know how to fix this?

thanks

Time should "fix" it.
The good news is - it will eventually dry.
The not so good news is - it could take a month or two (or three).

Just keep up the wipe down/set aside to allow the solvent to flash off.

Don't - repeat - do not - "dunk" it since that could cause too much solvent to get into the wood and make it swell.

You also need to change the surface of the cloth you are using for the wipe down so you aren't just spreading the oil around.

Teak oil - by the way - is a natural oil that's applied to Teak - to maintain the oily nature of Teak.
It's not a finish per se, like Danish Oil or one of the nut oils - or Tung oil.

Good luck - and have patience.
