Wood Hand Finish

Does anyone know the type of material that was used to finish the cocobola handles on the fixed blade knives? It appears to me to be some sort of expoxy based material. I acquired a 119 with a spot worn off where it rubbed against the metal rivets on the back side of the sheath.

Edit to add: Just learned that you apparantly can't edit thread titles to make hand into handle.

Tin, Your probably right on the finish. But I would try a drop of 'True Oil' carefully wiped smooth on that spot and let dry. It should be a match as both are clear. May take more than on application. DM

Tin,
The shop gets the shine on the handles by buffing them with a cotton wheel loaded with compound. The wood is resin impregnated and that helps. If it gets scratched, you would need to buff the scratches off.
I bet David's idea would really help so that the scratches would not show as bad.

Thanks DM and Joe! With that information from Joe that the wood was simply resin impregnated, I simply used a bit of acetone on a cotton ball and the "scratches" polished right out!!

wow great to see you stil around Tin!!!
and if you get a dent in one
moist cloth with a steam iron will likely take a lot of it out
polishing resin sticks i think may be held togeather with wax
the sticks they use are like 3 x 4 by 10 inches or 2x3 ..
and color id's the agressiveness of the grit..
