Anyone ever try using wood dowel for handle pins? Maybe using a dark wood dowel, walnut, on a light wood handle, maple? Thanks.

I've been using micarta pins a lot lately, and really like the results. In college I worked in a woodwork's shop, mostly sanding and helping with installations, but I like the way a dark and light wood contrast on each other. Just wondering how it would hold up on a handle.Carbon fiber rod, or Micarta/Garolite rod works better. The only handle pins I use are on Japanese blades and that is a hard type of bamboo.

Thank you gentlemen.
I have turned some scraps of cocobolo, ebony and skateboard decks for pins. They have worked well but getting them sized correctly was a bit of a pain. (Using a grizzly mini metal lathe)
It's a piece of flat steel with holes in it.
