Wood-Handled Kitchen Knives Recommendation?

Hello, I am looking for a set of decent quality kitchen knives and don't really know what I should look for. My only requirement is that they have wood handles even though I am aware of the drawbacks of wood. I have mostly just been looking into Case and Victorinox. Is there a difference in quality between the two? Should I look into more expensive knives than this? Any recommendations are appreciated! Thanks

I can't in general highly recommend plain mass produced knives. That being said, if you don't care much for top performance and finesse tools, the Victorinox Rosewood is pretty solid. I do strongly advise buying two or three better quality knives rather than a set, if you want to maximize your investment. What's your budget?

You can do everything with a chef knife, a bread knife, and a petty, utility or paring knife. Also, all of my handles are wood, with one exception, and I haven't had any problems. Mine are typically magnolia, rosewood, cocobolo, Japanese oak or ebony. I sand out rough spots and soak them with mineral oil.

Thanks for the reply. I guess if I were to just buy a few knives I might pay at most $150 for an individual knife, but I might pay more if it is worth it. I do some butchering and plan on doing more, so would it be a good idea to get a boning knife too?

Those work great for the cost. Although something longer term like MAC, Fujiwara FKM, and Tojiro are all great options as well.

Hi knight63,

Welcome to Bladeforum. There are probably 200 custom knife makers here who can make whatever you want. We use every kind of steel there is and can recommend the best steel for your needs. We can make a full custom or can modify one of our own standard designs. We can make knives that are as plain or fancy as you want.

There are several areas on the forum which discuss kitchen knives. Try going to Exchange, under KnifeMakers Market, look at For Sale: Kitchen Knives. Those will give you an idea of types and costs. If you see something you like, click on the posters name and send him a message.
