Wood Identification

This seems like the wrong forum but I can't find anywhere else that matches.
Can anyone tell me if these blocks of wood match and what they are?

Have any idea if the one set is spalted or if that is the grain? Do they feel dense?
 
I'm not sure if they are spalted or not; I don't know anything at all about wood. They don't really feel dense though.
The one to the far left in the first picture has a grain that seems reflective in light. The one to the right of it isn't like that, and the grain isn't as dark.

+1 - those would be my guess, too.
wear a dust mask when working with these - the dust can make you feel like you have the flu for a day or 2.
