Wood Jewel puukko are just fine. They use Lauri blades which I've found to be excellent. I have several and have used several of their blades to craft my own. I also have a several (mostly older) Iisakki. They are also fine blades. But the company was recently sold to a management group and is no longer family owned. They immediately raised prices. I haven't any of their new production, so can't comment on the newly made Iisakki knives. IMHO, Wood Jewel are a better value than Iisakki.

That might explain why my IIsaki Jarvenpaa Kauhavaleinen has doubled in price in a couple of years.

Does anyone know how are Lauri Stainless blades, and what steel theyre made from? Also Jarvenppa stainless, what is it and how well does it perform? All replys welcome.

Here's all I have on Lauri stainless: Stainless: HRC 57,X55; and Iisakki stainless: AISI 420 stainless and tempered to 57-58 (it is imported from Germany according to the Iisakki website). I've never been a stainless fan except 12C27 and Helle's laminated stainless. All my experience has been crafting knives with Lauri carbon and progression tempered carbon. Do have a couple older Iisakki stainless and they sharpen up pretty well.

Thank you Rich, I like that Jarvenpaa model with SS, but will postpone buying it.Will be getting few Lauri,Puronvarsi,Anssi, and Lammi blades, and actually make what I like for me and few of my friends that are hunters! These blades are beautiful , and are exactly the shape I always wanted.Traditional puuko shape like Puronvarsi is what I want, and performs best in my opinion all around.Rich, have you ever modified Mora like scandis, making grind higher,up to the middle of blade or little higher?I did that to few of my scandis, and they slice and cut way better, although I put small invisible secondary edge on most scandis to prevent chipping.Cant wait to get my hands on those Lauri, Puronvarsi and Anssi blades.Bet these traditional knives with proper geometry beat 99,9% of factory and even custom knives in real world use, working with wood, cutting, butchering, etc and are easy to touch up in field with simple stones or ceramics in few swipes!

I've not reprofiled any Mora; although I have rehandled several of the old laminated carbon Mora. Really good steel, takes a razor edge. Don't care for the modern Mora; don't like plastic handles and sheaths. I still prefer the Lauri and those you mentioned - all fine blades.
