wood jewel knives?

I have only one so I am not sure about the quality of others. Mine has a good heat treat, and I would only rank the fit & finish of my example as fair. Very functional and a good carver once the flats are leveled out and sharpened.

I have one as well, very nice materials but a bit on the bulky side for a scandi knife. Comes with a nice sheath and they take a very good edge. I have had the stainless blade rust a little on me, so there must be some carbon in there somewhere. It even took a nice (forced with acid, definately stainless) patina. I don't find the handle very functional the way it gets so big at the end, makes it a little awkward for me to use. I would buy another if it caught my eye though.

RescueRiley: You been struggling a bit on what to do about getting yourself a new scandi?

P.S. Sorry, I don't have any experience with the wood jewel, but I have heard a lot of good things about it.

I have owned two different Wood jewel knives. F&F was great, steel took and held a very good edge, and the sheath was excellent.

My problem with all on them is the antler bolster behind the blade. For carving/woods knives I do not like them. Creates a slippery spot (in the worst place, right in front of the edge) when wet, or your hands are sweaty. The way the handles are made it almost feels like they are forcing your hand twords the blade edge. Didn't feel right to me.

If they were all curly birch handles, I would still own one. I would go with a Ahti brand of scandis. Very well made, feels and looks like the same carbon steel, and very grippy handles.
