Wood or Kirnite Back Spacer for Spyderco Techno?

Well I got my techno last night and although it is all stone washed (will hide scratches) and built for hard use, I was surprised how premium and fancy it looks. I REALLY love the premium feel to it. The only off off thing about the knife is what I thought I would love most about it. The blue back spacer.

The blue looks great against the titanium and I love color in my knives but the g10 makes it look more like a toy and cheapens the look of it. I thought the blue back space was going to be my favorite thing about the knife.

Anyway I am thinking of making a custom wood backspaced. Something about the knife makes me feel like it should have some rosewood or something in it but when I try to visualize it, it doesn't seem like it would look good. NOTE: I have seen one in tulip wood but it wasn't the best pic.

Has anyone made a wood, kirnite, or other unique backspaced for the techno. I'd be curious to see some pics. (Yes I know about the cuscadi scales)

While I haven't made a different back spacer for the Techno, I do have an opinion on wood vs. Kirinite. Just any about any piece of well crafted wood would look great against the titanium, but if you worry about "cheap" then Kirinite may not be for you. Maybe the Black metal flake would be nice though. Just my .02.

Yeah, I've seen a techno with tulip wood but I didn't really like it. I have tons of wood at home, I'm just not sure what would look good. I have some black dyed maple burl I could try but idk. The lava kirnite might look cool too but it's hard to visualize it.

What is purple heart? I'm thinking about that blue and white and orange or blue/white/yellow kirinite. ???

Hmm. Pink stained wood. Interesting. I think I'm going to make a back spacer out of some scrap wood that I have at home.

I'm also looking at trying out one of these two styles of kirinite. I think the bright high gloss of the neon green would be cool.

I think a slice of Wenge cut at just the right angle might look great.

For long-term durability, you could go with Ipe which just might outlast the XHP and titanium!

Bloodwood for bright red, Holly for a bright ivory look or Ebony for a classy black (or maybe with a streak of brown).

I'd really like a titanium gear patterned back spacer for my techno. Same pattern as the blue G10 except in titanium. I wonder if there are guys doing that...

I went through my wood I had at home (birds eye maple, turquise dyed birds eye, black dyed maple burl, and one other dark wood) and none of them really did it for me. :\ I wish I could get a black chrome dipped back spacer. That would be awesome. Out of all the G10 I had, the best looking pieces that I put in were ultra polished black G10 and ultra polished blue G10. ....I may just stick with what I have, unless i can find a nice bright, rich colored wood. What ever the spacer will be, I have found that the best colors seem to be bright ones.

It depends what looks best for you,
I would go with wood or for kirinte, (LAVA or BLUE MOP)

Well, I ended up making a wood back spacer out of my best wood that I had today. Although it makes the knife look way fancier and rich, I really think I want a brightly colored back spacer. Here are some pics of what I made. Note: It has raised gears, unlike the tulip wood one in the pic above (also, I don't believe that the wood one is a cuscadi sacle, because his G10 scales have raised gears.

I am selling this custom back spacer. It's also posted in the forums. $35 net, shipped.

That wood looks good. I went for something plainer, which kind of blends in with Khakis for a more subtle approach than the original blue...

Cheers,

Ben

I asked Luke at Cuscadi to make a back spacer out of orange G10, with smaller finer gears.
It arrives this Monday.

But... after he shipped it out, he tells me he made it out of orange Kirinite which I'm not at all happy about, but I'll see what arrives on Monday, who knows.. it may look great, but I do not like shiny, plastic, glossy, mother of pearl looking back spacers at all.
I've always really liked Cuscadi's work in photos and decided to ask him to make it, but I'm really not happy about it being made out of Kirinite when I specifically asked for and agreed on orange G10.

This is what it was supposed to look like, orange G10 with thin gears:
