Does anyone have a source for reasonably priced and decent quality wooden presentation boxes?

Rob!

Culpepper has some, I'm not sure of what sizes they have. I bought the small ones. They are put together well but i dint like the color, with a little work you could probably change that. They also have some nice mother of pearl boxes.

I think Koval sold 'em, don't know if they still do; website's offline right now. Nanc has one for her folder collection, and it was really nice for the price, but that was long ago.

If you ever want the "caviar" version, check out www.tomway.com

Hey fitzo - thanks for the link. What I want is the caviar version at the fish eggs price. :-) (high end fisg eggs you understand)

YW,Rob; Koval has some listed in their 2003/2004 catalog (my newest, sorry).

just a note, I know a young man who makes some pretty nice one's, no metal at all, I just recently traded a coffin handled bowie I made for him for his s.a.s.s. costume, I supplied the wood though (very tight grain old growth mahogany) the stuff was rock hard and it turned out very well, i'll try to get a pic of it this weekend and post it in another thread...

Koval is out of business Ive heard from their belt salesman

Wait a Minute! Koval is not out of business - call 1-800-556-4837 on Monday for details. Who is the "belt salesman"? We look forward to serving you all with dependable service and quality "stuff" (All your knifemaking needs!)

Last I heard they were closing. With all the tragedy that poor family has endured in the last year,I can understand why.Troy said they were trying to sell the business.Looks like that may have happened by the JANTZSUPPLY posting above.I am calling tomorrow to see what the story is.

If you have a band saw you can make your own pretty easily from just scraps of wood. Just takes a few cuts and some Elmers glue and a strap clamp. Once set up you just remove the clamp and sand it down and varnish it. I've made some pretty nice ones out of old cedar logs for gifts. I usually line them with red or blue felt. They are unique and easy to make. I thought a handmade box went pretty good with a handmade folder. I'm sure if someone wanted to they could really doll them up more than I do. Here is one I did for a forum member last Christmas.

I have purchased several very nice boxes from a place called Hampel's Woodlands Cases. They advertise in the Shotgun News (or used to anyway). I have not purchased anything recently, but their prices were very good. Unfortunately, I could not find them on the web.
