Depends on needs besides wood processing. If it's solely wood processing you can't go wrong with a good vintage hatchet, but if you need other tasks out of the tool than Khukuri might be better.

Yup. As far as carry as a wood processing tool the hatchet is the one to go for. The kukri machete would have a broader range of applications/targets but would not process wood as effectively.
