I found an interesting point from this article:

http://www.exploredarjeeling.com/khukuri.htm

The scabbard is also made of medicinal wood (without the leather encasing), and when you slip the scabbard in your waist, the effect of the medicine is supposed to relieve you from colic pains, fever and the like.

Could it be Neem? it's the only wood that i know widely available in the region where it's known for anti-bacterial effects.

...I couldn't access the link anymore. Do you have a way around?...

The link works for me, but maybe that site is blocked for you (for some reason).

Another approach is to Google "the three piece knife sheath", then click on "Cached" to the right of the angelfire url at the top of the results.

I used Steve's approach; the wording worked for me but the pictures expired.

Thanks Steve!
