i like to carve blades out of wood and throw them into cardboard but I was wondering if they could be leathal.

Wooden blades are very lethal. The most famous Japanese swordman Miyamoto Musashi killed his opponent Sasaki Kojirō with a wooden sword on the shores of Ganryū Island at 1612.

I believe murderer Jeffrey Dahmer was killed in prison with a broken broom handle that was used as a spear/shiv. And in Vietnam the pungee stakes were not something you wanted to step or fall on. Fire hardening wood spears makes them more effective.

If its hard and pointy , it probably is..you can make a knife out of almost anything.

England tried to outlaw oak sticks because they were so lethal, ... either that or they were looking for a way to arrest any scot they felt like

(reference: a documentary film on the history of the era, but I can't find it right now, I'll look deeper if anyone really wants)
