OK practice your grinds. Even on wood. Who knows maybe it's good enough to make someone happy.

Grinding lathe, or lattice strips, is a good, and inexpensive way to learn blade grinding.:)
I don't know why more new makers don't try it. Plus you can sell the results to the neighborhood kids, for their lunch money. ;) :D

Hey, that is what I do.

Except I coat'em in polyurethane or superglue and buff'em with 0000 steel wool.

I use white oak scraps from Home Depot and stain or wrap the handles.
On a college budget it is the best I can do for now. I got to stay simple or else I would never study my books.

I plan on ordering steel soon and starting something small. I have ideas for a bowie, but am not ready or skilled enough to start on it yet.

that is how I taught myself how to grind. You grind wood much faster and you can see your mistakes, and they are easy to profile
and the belts last.:)

Rob,

You think that's a big grin? :)

Wait until my package from Santa arrives:D :D :D :D :D
