Wooden Model Fun

As I'm preparing for the Blade Show I started to think about what I could put on my table as a conversation starter. I came up with the idea of a wooden knife. Then I thought "what if it were a take-down so I could show the anatomy of the hidden-tang knives I make". Well, as I was thinking about what style to do I looked at one of the Bowies I had already started. So my next idea "I may as well build a model of a knife already on my table and why not this Bowie". Since having those thoughts a couple days ago here is what I've come up with. The obvious piece of steel will be the Bowie that I hopefully finish up before the show. The wooden knife blade is made of a specie of Cocobolo called "Yambar" here in Nicaragua. The guard is made of "Frijolio", the spacer and pin are brass and the handle is made of "Guapinol". This was quite a bit harder to make than I had imagined, mostly because it was more delicate to work with.

I'm hoping this will be a fun way to show folks how a hidden tang is made up and maybe dress my table up a little. Hopefully I'll get the real Bowie made up before the show. Then it will be that much more interesting. When I get the actual Bowie finished I'll post a pic of the two together.

Here's a closeup of the pieces.

Great idea Mike. If I were a betting man, I would bet that you will have people wanting that, and the other bowie also. Very cool and great wood.

that's gonna go over great at the show, my man!

Thanks to all for the compliments. Now if I can just figure out how to make a Damascus blade with the same pattern as the wood grain I may really be on to something.

How does it cut ? :D ( sorry just had to ask ) I reckon thats a great display and a good conversation starter! I have to agree with some here, you will definately have to put a price on that.
Cheers Keith
