Does anyone prefer wooden pencils to mechanical pencils? I do. I just bought some Mirado Black Warriors and Woodtones earlier today. They have Pink Pearl erasers and 2 HB lead. They're pretty nice. Do you prefer wooden pencils, and if so, what kind?

I've got a few thick woodless graphite pencils that are great for shading. For preliminary sketches I'll use whatever wood pencil I happen to grab first.

I'll probably lose my BSME degree, but I'm a mechanical engineer who hates mechanical pencils.

I use Mirado Black Warriors too!

They are pretty decent pencils. Good erasers, too.

I grew up with Staedtlers and Mongols.
(those who grew up in the Philippines should know what a Mongol is!)

Because technical drafting was part of my high school curriculum back in the day, the basic tools of the draftsman was required for us to have. It was a toss up between Staedtler and Rotring, half of the class had Rotring and the rest got Staedtler.

I love the smell of sharpened wooden pencils.

I don't use pencils normally for writing, but I have a wide selection of art pencils, mostly the ubiquitous Faber drawing pencils ranging from 3B up to HB (the hard ones)
Also a variety of compressed-charcoal, conte crayon, and Berol Prismacolor colored pencils.
Probably not a more versatile instrument...

I always have a 2 or 3 inch stub of a pencil in my pocket for jotting a quick note on a piece of folded up paper in my wallet. I preffer a pencil for the simplicity, nothing to dry up or leak, always works, dose't run if it gets wet.

I really enjoy using wooden pencils!

Get that tip super duper sharp

and the writing is waterproof, unlike so many rolling writer pens

There is NOTHING like a properly sharpened pencil! Finer than any pen I've ever used, and it's freakin ERASABLE!

I like the mirado classic, back when the original company made them (berol, or the one before that)

These days, Pentel Sharps, Twist Erase, and Staedler lead holders

I prefer lead holders when writing in "lead".

Don't know why? Probably due to always breaking the lead in mechanicals and snapping wood pencils.

Rotring made wooden pencils? I didn't know that. I wish I could get my hands on some Staedtlers, but the lack of eraser and fact that I have to order them off the internet is kind of disappointing.

I have never liked mechanical pencils, so it is always a wood pencil for me.
But I don't really care who makes them...right now I have some Paper-Mate yellow wood pencils in my desk drawer.

I admit that I kinda get a kick out of using my Buck 110 to sharpen my pencil in front of strangers.:D

I use Prismacolor and Sanford pencils for drawing. I've never liked mechanical pencils for drawing or sketching. I prefer either B, great for shading sketches.

BTW, I do like Rotring Rapidograph pens.
