I picked this up in a trade recently, and am wandering what I can do to make it "pretty" again? What I'm talking about exactly is the damage to the handle around the head.

If i can salvage the handle, I'm gonna sand it down and treat it with blo. Hopefully i can save the name on the handle.

But what's my options? Can i reprofile the handle and it still be useable? How am i gonna do this?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Brandon

Edit: I should also add that i am more than happy with the trade that was made. I just want to make it pretty.

Just clean up the shape with a 4-in-hand rasp and sand it out. Take as little as possible.

Somebody put that head on the coarsest belt grinder ever. What a pity.

And I applaud your enthusiasm to save the handle. Woodings Verona was a great company.

Thanks guys!
The handle has been covered with polyurethane, which poses a problem with saving the name on the handle. I think I'm gonna do what you suggested square peg, and shape the handle. After that, i love the ideal off a handle wrap of some sorts.

Here's my progress so far....

And a glamour shot with my True Temper Kelly Perfect double bit I was gifted a few days back.
Just a couple more coats of blo, and ill wrap the handle.
