Are there other brands with tools similar to the Woodman's pal? Looking for something with the machete blade and hook also. Different prices, uses, etc.

hard to compare have 3 and woodsmans pals and cant recommend any thing that compares spend the money get the one and only

Baryonyx machete. Not exactly cheap, but not nearly as much as the Woodsman's Pal. It is a leaf-shaped blade with a brush hook on the back side. I will not knock the Woodsman's Pal because I haven't tried it. But the Baryonyx is very effective in everything from grass and light brush to limbs and trees up to 4". Some people say even bigger trees, but I haven't tried it. Sometimes it is easier just to fire up the chain saw.

I have tried both. I own two baryonyx machetes. I have used them to cut small limbs and up to 2x6s. Excellent blades. I have considered buying a third because of the new sheath. I think I got the racing edge on both and would like to see one without it. I hadn't damaged the racing edge either though. I have owned 4 woodsman pals but right now I own three. due to out of box sharpness, the baryonyx spanks the traditional and premium models. My favorite woodsman is the long reach. Thinner stock and sharper then the other models.
So, I still like the baryonyx a little more but the long reach is a nice tool also.

Gerber and elk ridge make knock offs of the woodsman... The gerber seems alright but I don't have enough experience to truely vouch for it.

Cost me a buck and a pack of cigarettes in the mountains of Laos about 25 years ago.

Like others have said, the Baryonyx Machete seems to be what you want, if for some reason you don't just want to get a Woodman's Pal:

I went with the long handled WP. Keep my hand out of the briars and I liked the hook a little better.
