Took advantage of the local holiday today and slept in. Exhausted after weeks of 5Am starts, driving truck in Lower Mainland BC traffic all day. It got so bad I fell asleep at the wheel of my personal truck driving home from work one day. drove into a pile of sand along the freeway and torqued a rib out of my chest and bent my tie-rod end on the truck. Spent a week after that working in absolute misery and pain..... however my rib healed up very quickly and i felt ok the last few days.

anyways, caught up on sleep today, slept like the dead.

got up, grabbed the pack and hit the icy cold local mountains for a quick 5 hour hike today. Wandered along forest trails, mapped out a very rich (dark purple) massive slab of fatwood, and took tons of pictures.

In BC, fatwood knows when Bushy is coming down the trail, and in defeat it simply splits itself into portions.........

as for the tile of this thread........you have seen the ice,.........now here is the fire.....

i was climbing up a very steep embankment, as the light fell into dusk. As i got to the top there was a sudden orange glow around the area, in fact i thought i was seeing things and witnessing a massive forest fire....the entire area was bathed in brilliant orange fire glow from the setting sun, thru the trees.

It was short lived though, literally 1 minute before the forest got dark.

It was utterly magical to experience.

hey HIWA! when you coming to vancouver?
I'd like to come this summer. I need a lean-to and a fire so I can crash though;)

Seriously, I've been all over this country except B.C. Looks like the one place I should have went to all along. The scenery makes my head swim !!
:)

good stuff! i really like the pics especially the ice crystals.

here is the sunset, it doesn't really show it that well, got a bunch of spots on the pic...it was orange all across the horizon, spot lighting thru the trees.....

It would be an honor if i could be a tour guide, depending on my schedule. You will be subjected to local hikes, fatwood hunting, beer, oh man there will be beer!

Bushman 5 it looks like a great place you get to hike and camp in. But I get the feeling
from some of your other posts that you do not get to really play the bushman with the man looking over your shoulder. Is that right? Just wondering.

I have read and even had some chats with other members and they tell me that they really do not get to do what they would like out there in the woods for fear of the forest rangers getting after them.

Anyways Great pics and cool sunset.

It is a constant frustration for me Sicily, There is so much i want to do in the woods, and yet our woods are basically "look but dont touch". There is culture of fear in this area, someone building a shelter in the woods "must be up to something or dangerous" thats pretty much the mindset here. I have to go full CADPAT/ghillie suit and be utterly silent to truly enjoy the woods, without some jackarse freaking out and calling the police.

In order for me to truly be able to Freeman and do things in the woods, i need to spend about $150 in fuel and drive into the mountains outside the LOWER MAINLAND of BC and then hike from there. That too has its issues, lots of idiots in the Province seem to like burning or stealing trucks parked in the middle of nowhere. So that means that now i have to get someone else to drive and drop me off and arrange for pickup.

pisses me off. Its the reason i cram in so many dayhikes , as many as i can.

Beautiful! I love the close-ups of ice. I'll keep an eye out for more of your photos.

Bushy, brother, I'm breathless. Those were some of best pics I've seen in a long time. Mesmerizing.

And the fatwood comment, my be my new sig, I'm still thinkin'.:D

Some really wonderful pictures in this thread. Thanks for sharing.

Is there some pixelation in these two pictures or are my eyes messed up? Maybe it's an effect done on them.

I post-edited in PICASSA using the AUTO fix.......I have noticed that "warming" the photo results in grain or pixels, as does "sharpening" the pics. still learning the post edits..... .
