Woodsman in 1/8" ?

Anyone have a woodsman in 1/8" ? I'm wondering if the thinner stock takes away from the intended performance of the design. I was looking at the woodsman as an ideal dual purpose camp / kitchen knife and thought the 1/8" would make it more efficient for kitchen duty, but I worry it would compromise its primary role. Any thoughts are appreciated!

Thanks,
Alan

Well, the Woodsman is a really thin ground knife, and already excels in the kitchen. Especially nowadays. The grinds are thin!!! BUT!! I could make one in 1/8" steel. I don't see why not. Its not a pry bar either way, so what can it hurt?

Thanks for the reply! People seem to like the balance of the knife as-is. Do you think the thinner blade would throw it off or would the weight difference be negligible?

I'm thinking I need a Woodsman down the road.
Preferably in Burlap Micarta.
Looking at the comparison photos and specs this seems to be the best model for all around knife duty. I would never ask it to be an ax or a crowbar and I think thin blades work best but 1/8th might be a bit thin?

I'll try to get a pic today of my grinds. I don't think the 1/8" steel is too thin. Thin is how I grind, regardless of the thickness of the bar.

The knife got profiled yesterday. We now have an 18" billet in the shape of a Woodsman. I've got a batch I'm preparing for glue now, once those handles are done, this will get pushed forward as quickly as possible.

That thing is going to be one hell of a knife. When I saw it, I was thinking, "someone's going in the right direction. I like this."

Messed up the conves sabergrind on this AL. Knocked the handle off yesterday. I'm going to hand rub it and etch it and put on a new handle next week. Is all of this OK??? If so, how fat do you like your handles?

Andy, no problems here. I like 'em at 1". Sorry you had a rough week. Hopefully this one will be better!

I hope you got my response, I was put of pocket from Thursday to Sunday. Anything is fine, Andy.

No trouble. Got the old handle knocked off. Lots of work to do now. SAD day to knock the old handle off. It was gorgeous.

A Woodsman in 1/8" steel that is hand rubbed and etched with Osage over Walnut with black furniture is a VERY fast knife.

Thanks my friend. That one broke my heart once, but in the end, turned out sweet as hell.

Well, it couldn't be much better. We've had a bit of snow and a cold front here in Missouri, but my Woodsman has been perfect. With the 1/8 stock it has been a dream in the kitchen and made perfect curls for the fire. As soon as I get a break, I'll take it for a good shakedown with pics in the woods, but if my initial thoughts prove right this will be THE knife for me. Andy, you are a true artist and out of all my customs, my Woodsman is the only one that has felt like me... if that makes sense. Thank you and more to follow...

Alan
