Got my Woodsman today from KSF. Overall I am liking the knife! The maple looks great and really has a nice holographic effect in the light.

Some of the specs I am posting might already be out there, but I'm including them for the benefit of people who are considering purchasing this knife and are looking for more info.

I am going to attempt to post some cellphone pictures. Hope it works!

Here are some specs:

Cutting edge length - 5 1/2 inches

Blade length - 5 3/4 inches

Blade height - 1 3/8 inch

Blade thickness - 5/32

Handle length - 5 inches

Overall length - 10 7/8 inches

(measurements are taken by me from my knife, these numbers aren't endorsed by the maker, just what my cheap tape and calipers say about MY knife. For novelty use only.)

Convex saber grind with a secondary bevel

Stabilized dyed curly maple, dark green? bullseye lanyard hole, black liners

KSF sheath stamped Bark River Knife and Tool by Sharpshooter

Got a little bit more to say about it but I'm going to work on the pictures for this post.

The folks at KSF were great, even with my last minute, late night order change.

Not too sure about the sheath style for a knife of this size. It might be good on the belt provided the wearer doesn't move much. It will make an excellent storage sheath for my now semi-retired kitchen knife. Don't get me wrong, the quality on the sheath is definitely there and I think it might work well with a few modifications for baldric carry.

The handle is not as big as it seemed in the pictures I saw before purchase. Very comfortable and nimble. I am used to grips that taper towards the business end of tools, guns, and knives, so these will take a bit to get used to. The large belly swell really makes it work and I like it very much!

I was a bit nervous about a woods knife this big, but the way it is designed makes me think it will handle very nicely. The balance is just right.

There are a couple of issues that I have with the knife, but nothing I can't sort out here at home with some sandpaper.

Overall, a home run. Instant classic. Me likey!:D

I will write a full review when I get the chance to get her outside and working for a bit. Just wanted to pass on a few first impressions.

Give the sheath a try.

I was initially going to put them in our modern classic sheath....but the knife was a little too big.

This is actually kind of like a big brother to the Modern Classic. It is actually a very comfortable sheath to carry. I love my Modern Classics.

Glad you like the knife. :)

Thanks, I love the knife! The more I play with it the more I like it. Very pleased!

I will certainly give the sheath an extended test. I'm not exactly tall though so that might be a factor.

Thanks for being there at a most unusual hour to help with the order. That helped more than you know. When I need another knife I will check your inventory first.

Hey!! Glad to hear it got to you. That maple has really been great to work with. Its a two color dyed maple. Sort of a rust, and kinda greenish blue too.

What needs sanding? Wierd.

The maple is a very nice wood. It seems to be VERY hard and dense due to stabilization. Not worried about its durability at all. The cellphone pics don't do it justice.

Going to work on the edge and maybe dehorn the sharp (relatively sharp, it's NOT going to cut you) angle on the handle. Meh, minor issues that are really mine and not the knife's and not unexpected.

Fit, finish, construction is all top notch. The quality is amazing.

This knife was purchased to fill the role of "only one knife" if the social or environmental situation ever demanded a hasty one-way backpacking trip.
I have been looking for years for the right knife to fill this flagship position and I think I made the right decision.

I actually bought my woodsman with the same idea in mind.
It is a truely awesome design.

I think if you dig up the passaround thread, a lot of folks in there were suprised at the versatility of such a strange shape for the woods. But that design grows on folks too. It did me.

I have a couple of pics too.

And some other knives done with that wood.

This Bushie went out to Woodsmonkey, and Tim Stetzer reviewed it.

Alas. It is all but gone, and the tidbit I have left is spoken for...

love the maple. I can't wait to show my wannabe mountain-men friends this knife. They are going to run straight to their wives and beg for permission to get one too! HAH!

I didn't mean I would re-contour the handle, wouldn't dream of it. The shape is great and the more I handle it the better it gets. Very nice and well thought out. All I am doing is about two minutes with some 2000 grit on the horn. Same thing I do on handguns. To the naked eye, nothing has been changed.

Glade to see someone else is getting prepared for the final coup de grace to our constitution by the communist squatters in Washington. Why go to work when they take all you earn and give it to someone else? Why not live in the woods tax free? I've got a knife, I can do it!

Wolverines!!!:D
