I was able to ask John if he'd make me one of his 'pocket knives' in my favorite red/green combo with a tapered-tang....that he does so well. He just happened to have a bit of Hitachi #2 cored San Mai and the deal was on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm a huge fan of HUGE knives but I'm also a sucker for a smaller version when it's done this fine....2 1/2" blade.....enjoy.:)

That's a great little knife. I like the lines, proportions and materials. Nice score.

Handsome little knife. Looks just about perfect for pocket carry

wow, thank you !!

love the front finger groove into the guard, nicely done.
Am curious on your HT of the Hitachi steel, are you doing your own?
I've been thinking about offering HT of that steel as a service.
I would offer a thin clay slurry coat into straight water quench.

and congrats on your new bandsaw :-)

regards

thank you HSC. yes, i do it all here. i used the heat treat instructions that came with the steel. it was hitachi white paper #2. heat in a propane forge to 1400-1526 F , quench in parks #50 @ 90 degrees. they recommend veg oil for a quench to reduce cracking, but all turned out fine. two temper cycles @ 400 F. the saw is working great !

Oooooooooh, I LOVE that!!! That is one schaweeeeeeeeeet knife, my friend!!

Nice snag, Dudley, and nice work, John.
Just about perfectly sized and I dig all the materials used.
Very handsome and clean.
Thanks for sharing, ALWAYS ! :)
