Ah, just in time for hiking....

I see that AG Russell has the Woodswalker on sale (scroll down)-- one less now

$8-$20 depending on sheath options. Heck, get a set of 8 and tell your wife they are steak knives

they are well worth the money...outstanding handy little knife w/ a flat grind take advantage of it...and ag russell customer service is unbeatable

I love mine; I haven't carried it much lately though. For that price I may well grab one with kydex! You really can't go wrong with them. Paired with a Vic Farmer you'd have your cutting needs SET!

I got my Woodswalker in time for lunch today. Slices cheddar real proper like :)

I did expect it to have a little thicker blade, but I can't say why I thought that. It is, for all practical intents and purposes, a flat-ground paring knife with a Kydex sheath. The handle suits me fine and it's a nice little utility knife. It would be great for fishing. It arrived shaving sharp and with prompt shipping. It's a fine little cutter for the money.

I'm going to swing by the commecial fishing supply that has Victorinox paring knives and see if they have the Kydex sheaths in stock. I'll put up a photo if they do. It's the mora of paring knives.

I ordered another one of them puppies (WW) yesterday with a kydex sheath. I can't wait for it to get here. Now I have 2!

Ordered! pretty nice! thanx guys (I knew I shouldn't have looked at this thread! j/k) :D

but seriously it's a pretty nice little knife and a great deal!

I have been doing some lighter hiking lately, nothing necessary to take my Mora, so I am thinking of picking one of these babies up.

What are the scales made from ?

It's over on the specs table on the RH side of the web page: Wood Rucarta, which is an epoxy-based scale material, evidently developed by AG Russell. It is their own flavor of Micarta. It looks like ebony--- totally black and a very fine grain. They have Natural, Linen, and Ivory Rucarta on other knives.

So sayeth the AG Russell glossary:

"Rucarta™
Man made material that offers attractive appearance, great strength and durability. Phenolic resin and layers of cloth.
A trademark of A. G. Russell™ Knives"

Geez, I got to really looking at AG Russell's other knives and everthing I like is $200 or more. I guess the Woodswalker is like owning a small Mercedes at VW prices  I guess I need to take the paring knife comment back!

LOL Dale. It will be my first AG Russell, been meaning to get on that wagon!

Just as a matter of information, the Bark River Mini Canadian will fit the WoodsWalker leather pocket sheath like a glove. I also got Nick Allen (NWA Knives) to make me a leather neck sheath for the WW. It's also great; Nick does super work. Bill.

What are your thoughts on the different sheaths? I like the look and feel of leather, but I'm tempted to go with the kydex so I have more carry options.

I have both the leather and the kydex sheaths...the leather sheath is nice but big considering the size of the knife I cut a slot in one side so it can be worn on the belt but it takes up too much space IMHO for such a small knife. However it is ideal for storing the blade in a jacket or cargo pocket. I prefer the kydex (not the look) but the functionality it can worn in alot of diffent ways, and is much more "stowable"

I wanted the Kydex for size, weight, neck carry and water resistance. I may even lash the Kydex rig to my pack shoulder strap using zip ties.

I think the leather sheath would be great for someone using the knife for work. A conventional belt sheath would be another good option.

I spent a little time this evening experimenting with a small Tek-Lok. You can mount it "high and tight", or at a 30° or 45° angle. I liked the 45° cross draw. The angled options barely fit the holes, but it is possible to pull it off.
