Picked me up a CONDOR Woodworker axe today ... at a bargain price of 34 dollars.
got one small problem I would like input on ... the HICKORY handle 20 inch smooth...
like some suggestions on how to make it more SLIP RESISTANT ...
Shop owner said he did hear some were a little on the soft side which I may actually like
myself.
has a real nice look n feel to it ... will post a pic later.
suggestions please ???

good ideas ... another friend emailed me and said drill some divets in in with a drill bit...
I may try a 3/8" counter sink and drill them neatly down lines.
then rough it up.
sorry I posted in the WRONG SECTION "ESAV" ... BUT I think you need to POLISH UP ON THOSE MANNERS SOME. Kinda like you were
talking down to me ... not right. thanks... alot.

I wouldn't bother with the divots thing. Easy to make the job real ugly and more likely to give you blisters. Just rasp or sand the handle. It's what's commonly done on racing axes.

Sand. Just remove the polish - that will suffice. If you make it too rough it will be difficult to work without gloves, which is in my opinion not safe.

I am dealing with damaged hands too from an accident ... may add a forward thong to it.
yeah divots may act like a chesse grater

I'd pass on the forward lanyard if I were you. If your hands are damaged from an accident you could do yourself some more real harm if it slips and the axe comes back and hits you.

Best regards

Robin

Yeah--better to walk a few feet and pick it up if it goes flying rather than limp all the way home! :D:eek:

I am real careful of the "SWING" of a knife or axe
go about stuff careful and easy .... now.
thankful I am alive.
thanks for the advice knife people

The make a product that is called PlastiDip. It comes in a long tube and is made for making handles non slip.

I have seen this on hammer handles, hatchet handles, etc. It works well. Maybe this is an option.

YUPP
but ya got to use it or loose it ...
stuff works
we used to dipp our electrical tools in it.
comes in differnet colors too , or it did.
bet LOWES has it
sorry but I do have to go about things different now being handicapped/ aka fried inside
like my knives to be comfy and easy to grip and look for the ahhh STOP to keep my fingers off the blade ...
looks for cuts I cannot feel ... like the other day... wondering where the blood was coming from.
I am ordering the MICH AXE TOO ... just because it looks cool.
thanks folks

this is good if you tend to use the tool while wearing gloves. the divets can be a little irritating on bare hands

torching the handle a little and coating with light coat of linseed oil is good for all day use

i never fuss with the mods, frankly they scare me.

all good
glad you decided to try out a hatchet.
i have a dozen and always enjoy tuning up a rusty relic.

please post more on your experience with the Condor

I would suggest French whipping the handle. In picture below I used tarred nylon twine on shaft of a spear I made but tarred hemp marlin line works great too. French whipping is basically a series of half-hitches. Turks-heads are optional but cool. Some use 550 paracord but a tad too thick for my tastes.

now that is an idea and I happen to have some nice parachute thread... lil heavier than "button thread" that
would work perfect for that wrap.
mmmm thank you.
May do a 2 cord braid with paracord for a Turks-head at the bottom only... I call it a cricket braid.
thanks alot ... now that doo look cool too.

I'd just sand it a bit like the other people said.

How do you like the Woodworker Axe? I was thinking about getting one. Would you consider doing a review sometime?

LOVE the weight of it so far ... holds better with a long hold , choking up it is a lil less stable.
I did run a slight bevel to the edge and polish it with some green compound on rough leather.
Has a better bit to it now ...
so far seems to be the PERFECT size for cruisin' (aka creeping) the woods.

Thanks! Do you think it would be a good carving axe or would something like the Greenland Hatchet be better?
