I love dogs and always have. I have been blessed to have had a few of them over the years and my life has been much richer for it. Every dog I've had has shared one unique trait, a seemingly endless supply of unconditional love and affection to share. They truly are angels with paws!

This is my best friend Sammy (his "real" name is Sampson but he only hears that when he is being bad, such as completely destroying a $1,500 leather couch :) ). We adopted him from a shelter two years ago. At the time, we thought he was a yellow lab, but we have since come to find out that he is more likely a Rhodesian Ridgeback (put up for adoption with his four brothers because he does not exihibit the characteristic ridge of hair down his back except when he is really worked up about something!).

This was him just after he came home, about 9 weeks old...

Here he is last summer, such a goof...

And in his favorite spot (I think this is where that saying about a "dog's life" comes from).....

He is possibly the best dog I've had so far (and I've been blessed with some great ones). He is incredibly affectionate to our family but seemingly fearless of anything. He is extremely protective, especially of my wife, but gentle and fun at the same time. Needless to say, we all adore him!

So, who greets you when you come home? Brightens your day when you're down? Hits the trail tirelessly whenever you ask him or her to? Let's see some pics of your dogs!!!!

Hey Sammy! :) this is my girl Luna. She is a year and a half old. The smaller one is her half brother, Oso. They are both Staffordshire Bull Terriers. Luna is full grown now.

Oso belongs to a good friend of mine and they are both a joy.
Thanks for sharing Sammy, he sure is handsome. :)

This is an awesome thread! I just had to find my dog a new home (a blue heeler) but he now lives with another heeler (red) and a smaller dog that im not sure of the species. Im going to college next year so i wasnt able to take him. Im planning on finding another dog as soon as i graduate though.

i do not have a dog. but, i periodically spend time looking for one to pal around with. however, ultimately, i decide that my lifestyle would not be fair to the dog. i am seldom home. plus. i had kids when i was young, so i am not sure i want a new "kid" to take care of. i mentally flip flop on this, but have yet to get one. i would love to get a good bird/trail dog, but see above....ultimately, i concede that it just wouldn't be right. sigh.

with that said...i love dogs. and, this is a great idea for a thread, sean. i will live vicariously through you guys. i enjoy looking at all the pics and stories.

nice thread, great pictures. I have always loved dogs, always kept them growing up but when I moved to America I was dog-less and we were running around trying to find jobs, etc.

About 2 years ago I decided it was time to have one again and we got two husky mixes. They were very protective - and aggressive - but they also got too big too quick for my son and daughter and wife's liking - they got into a lot of trouble with the neighbor as well - I am often out of the house all day and might if I teach night classes and just didn't get them trained well or quick enough. Sad to say my failings meant I had to give them up. I said I wouldn't have another because of it.

Last month my wife came home with a dachshund mix she said a friend of hers had rescued after it was through out of a car. Have to say I'm still a little hesitant towards her, feel guilty all over. But the kids had named her Lucy by the time I got home and my wife knows I'm a sucker for a sad dog story. She's a nice dog that jumps around like a rabbit when she's excited - it's became me walking and feeding pretty quick.

No pictures yet, I'll try to remedy that this weekend.

This is Fiona.......sadly she is no longer with me but I know I will see her again one day. All dogs go to heaven.

Some sweet pup picks in here! Ive had the pleasure of meeting Penny at a Gathering. She is so cute I almost dognapped her. Those ears are too much, she trips on them.

And if there ever was a cat that could hang in a dog thread, I would say it is Terrance.
