A site that I visit sometimes has been putting up a few long discontinued NIB Spydercos for unbelievable prices. I snatched up a few for family and myself. Anyway I'm looking for info on the calypso jr. Can't find much. Maybe the original marketing info would be nice.

There are some facts about the Caly Junior model that few people know about>>> there was one stainless handled Caly Jr. that was made with AUS-8 blade steel and it was available in SE & PE both. One distinction about the stainless handled Caly Jr. is that it was the only one of many versions of the Calypso Junior that had a hollow grind blade. Most of the rest of them had full flat grinds. I've owned both of the stainless models and I actually liked the Caly jr. with the hollow grind.

Now the most iconic, hall of fame, best collector piece has to be the Burgundy Caly Jr. with ZDP-189>> it was Spyderco's very first knife ever made with ZDP-189. It's still one of the most sought after of all of the Caly Jr. models.

One Caly Jr I always wanted but never was able to snag one was one of the AUS-8 models with the Micarta handle. As far as vanity goes that's my favorite>> it was a really classy version of that super classic.

But the one I liked out of the Calypso series was it's grandfather the original C-54 big Calypso model. They did a Sprint run of it a couple of years ago with a brown G-10 handle and I definitely want one of them too when I can swing it.

Even the Gray model Caly Jr. with VG-10 steel is an incredible EDC user knife.> but you can't go wrong with any of the Caly Jr. models.

Good luck with your purchases. If you're interested in older Spydercos, you should consider visiting this webpage and downloading all the older catalogs in PDF format.

Since JD mentioned wanting them, I had to post this.

Left to right, Brown G-10 C54 Sprint, C54 Black Micarta Serrated, C54BMP (both with straight blades), C54BMS and C54BMP (both with warped blades), Super Blue Caly 3.5, C52BMS and C52 BMP, C52P SS, C52P Burgundy ZDP-189, C52P Black ZDP-189, CF Caly3.

The Calypso Jr. is a beautiful blade and excellent EDC user. One of my favorite FRN textures as well.

That's a mind blowing display Yablanowitz  Especially those C-54 big Calypso models. I still think that's one of Sal's greatest IN HOUSE designs. A lot of people really don't realize where all the other Calypso models came from or who or what inspired the later Calypso designs.

Those full Spyderedged C-54 models have me drooling. Next to the Ayoob and JD Smith that big Spyderedged C-54 Calypso is the best serrated blade they ever made IMO.

I have Micarta Caly Jrs in both plain and SE versions--a wonderful large-ish gentleman's folder (compared to say, the Air). But if I had to pick one Caly Jr it would be the sprint model with the gray FRN handle. What an awesome light carry blade!

those early black micarta calypsos were pretty ergonomic
and was a leap forward in its day.
still pretty.

The Caly Jr. is in the same league as the Rookie, The Standard and the Delica>> in other words it's just about the perfect EDC size for just about any place in the USA. I carried the ZDP-189 Burgundy Caly Jr. for 2 to 3 years before switching my main EDC. The ZDP-189 Caly Jr. and Delica are really sweet EDC blades.

The older Micarta Caly Jr. models are really starting to attain major collector status. It wouldn't surprise me to see the Caly Jr. return>> I've even wondered how good of an H-1 Salt Series blade it would be?

But I would also love to see a Sprint Run in one of the newer supersteels.
