i got my first busse today and all i have to say is WOW!
its a CG Satin Jack, this thing is so solid, its a lot heavier than i expected too. im not too fond of the kydex being glued into the sheath but other than that this knife is WAAAAAY more hardcore than i expected:D

ok, and now for the sharpening question, well two really. ok first one
i know you sharpen the left side with a ceramic rod, but when you sharpen it do you do a slicing motion like you would normally sharpen a knife, or do you pull back and up towards you starting at the back and ending at the tip??

and the second one, when you strop the right side what angle should you hold the knife at?? oh and wheres a good place online to order a strop and compound?

now i think its stand in front of the mirror time, you guys know how it is;)

Your second option is right. Pull it back and up starting at the heel of the edge and finish at the tip.

HandAmerican gets high marks as an online source for strops, but I improvise mine from old leather belts. My recommendation for stropping compound is Lee Valley's blade honing CrO compound at $6.50 for a stick of it that should last you a long long time.

Enjoy it brother, I am still hunting.....:D

Post some pics of her mate....

Payback,
Congrats on your Satin Jack. It is one of my favorite Busse's.:D

Payback, first Strider, now Busse, man, you better find yourself a second and THIRD job!!!

Would somebody please send Gundy a knife down under. The poor guy just wants a little Busse in his life...:D :D

Mark

I should get an 'A' for trying Mark! LOL...

I will admit, I have never handled a Busse but have some sort of fascination with them. Don't know why (yet). Probably that they seem to be very practical and built like tanks. So I hear...;)

....and....

I actually, just this morning, have aquired my first! A Natural Outlaw! ..Providing my luck holds.

:(

Congrats on the SJ, it's a sweet blade. I encourage you to use and abuse it; that is the only way you will truly appreciate it, IMHO :D . If you do, please post your impressions of it.

Stick around, I think you'll like it here :D .

Congrats Payback!

Mirrors are even more fun with a Busse in each hand and one in your teeth:D:D:D

hey guys thanks for the welcoming!
gundy, im sorry i beat ya to it, i know how much you want a busse:(
but im not that sorry:p

marklee, it took way more self control then i thought i had to not buy that badger attack you had f/s a while ago, and now im kicking myself cause i didnt!

thanks for all the links for the strops and compounds, and now i have a few MORE questions
ok, so when i use an old belt to strop do i use the smooth leather side or the rough suede side?
and when i strop do i keep the angle as shallow as possible or is their a certain angle i should use?
and should i hold the belt slack or should i put it down flat on something??
thanks guys, oh yeah, i think the PH and AS will be my next, then either the NO or SH.

Hey a Satin Jack is a really nice knife to start with. When I have enough in my "knife savings" account I might get one or two.
