We keep basic survival gear in each of the cars. On a cold winter day a few weeks ago, we decided to head into town to see the third installment of the Hobbit. When we get to the theater, the ticket person informed and warned us that the heat was not working in the theater that was showing the Hobbit. My wife asked if there would be a "no heat discount." We got the discount. I asked if I could run out to the car to get some blankets.

You really never want to need that survival gear, but sometimes it can sure be handy. :)

Can't honestly say my wool blankets have ever saved a life but they sure have made cold days in the woods a LOT better! I recall one camping trip I went on with my son. Made sure he had all his stuff and totally forgot my cold weather coat! I put on my warmest layers under my rain coat and wrapped up in a wool blanket for the coldest parts of the trip. Mostly it just saved the trip as I did not want to run back to town :)

"Better a blanket than a barrel," me gran-pappy used to always say!

Sounds like a fun trip to me.

It was a fun trip. The no-heat warning meant that we had the whole theater to ourselves. And having the blankets provided the same satisfaction I get when I get to pull out my SAK for just the right tool. :)

Some extra gear in the trunk is always handy. I drive a VW T4 California (camper) and I keep food, fuel, water and camping gear (clothes, down sleeping bags) as well as the mandatory full stocked tool box. I am comfortable knowing that I am self sufficient in mostly any circumstances!

This is how I imagine you looked in the theater.

I'll bet you had the pick of the seats in there if it was cold. Nice and cozy with a blanket too.

Ha ha ha. Yes! That's exactly how we looked! Except the blankets were army green. :)

And, yes, we had the whole theater to ourselves!

It's better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.

Exactly, I live by that. You can take it off if too much, but you can't put it on if you don't have it.... Good for you Scott.

Keep a wool blanket in my vehicle during about half of the year for emergencies along with other stuff. I use them car camping which is about 2/3 of the camping I do anymore.
