and of course, the first impression is "WOW.. THATS HUGE!". it reminds me a lot of a the predator bowie for how it transfers size to the eye. something about it just says huge.

second thing i noticed, fatty grip on it :D without my thumb, none of my fingers touch my palm, and i have midsized to large hands (wich will be large hands come 10 years or so).

i have to go to work asap, so im just going to post the pics and come back with a more deailed response later tonight

from left to right - 2 kagas katne's, bilton, 12" sirupati, 12" ak, 18" ak, 20" sirupati, 20" ak, 25" chiruwa ak, 30 sirupati

the 25" ak is made by kumar, as is my 30 sirupati

and the rest of them

from left to right on the handles show - 25" chiruwa ak, 20" ak, 18" ak, 12" ak

odley, the 20" has a slightly smaller grip them the 18"... its weird in that they feel like the same knife, but with a different flow... hard to explain...

i cant wait to get my 30" ak...

Just tell me what you had to do to get a 25" AK? I would love to get both a 25" AK and Chiruwa AK in that size, but would settle for one or the other.

Great pics and beautiful blade. Thanks for sharing.

Norm, check out this thread: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=295556. Uncle Bill had special ordered about 8 25" AKs. I'd sugest emailing him to see if there are any left.

Seth, that AK sure got to you quickly. Glad you like it. What you going to name him? :D Godzilla is taken BTW.;) lol Great Pics!

Hope you checked your zipper before going to work. :p hee hee hee

I have been browsing this forum for the better part of 6 months and those are the finest pics i have seen (or maybe they are just my favorites ;) )

Anyway fantastic, but the thing that actualy made me register is to tell you this:

Your fly is down.

:D

The Chiruwa 25-in AK would be just too big for me.

But I have a sudden hankering for a 30-in Siru...........

ya, the fly thing is kinda noticable

there are a few things id like on this that arent there, specifically, a wood handle, and a massively thick blade. at 1/2", its still a mighty wood splitter, but it would absolutely insane at 3/4". im hopeing that my 30" will be thicker then this, though if its not, and only 1/2", i'll most assuredly still be happy with it :)

the horn handle feels much safer to me on the chiruwa then it does on the normal models... it tapes from 1/2" at the bend down to 3/8" at the end of the fuller, and 1/4 at the begining of the tip grind.

its interesting to see the tang cut out to fit the sape of the ring in the handle, and its also nice to that the handle isnt completely straight.

the name shiva seems to fit this knife... just thinking today while doing dishes at work how a knife is by nature a tool of desctruction, accurate and precise, meant to sever a whole...

it really is bueatiful...

it got to me crazy fast! i kept thinking, even if he shipped it at the same time i shipped my MO, 2 days is to much to expect, and BAM, there it was :D. im glad to see by the delivery comfirmation tracker on usps.com that the MO got there today... had it not shown up, i would have sent a second one immediately upon learning that it was tied up in transit, but its nice to know it got there without any hassle.

i put a square ding in my 18" ang while taking the pictures :( stupid screw in teh deck that i didnt notice... i was setting them up for the spine shot, and hitting the nose to sink them into the wood a little, and there just happened to be a screw head underneath my 18" ak... about an hour and a halfs worth of steeling... theres gotta be a way to hammer it out without damaging it...

i cant get over how fat the handle is on the 25" ak! its huge... not that thats a bad thing, its just that if i had small hands, id have to use it two handed, there wouldnt be any other way to hold it...

this knife tops all other knives ive ever held, seen, or hoped to own...i can only imagine what the 30" will be like :D :D :D
as to how i got my 30" (wich isnt here yet, still a 2-8/12 weeks away, depending on all the variables of shipping and shop time and such), i asked and got lucky :D *i kick myself for not asking for it to be wood handled and extra thick... but even if its horn handled and 1/2", im so blown away by shiva (ooooh that sounds nice....), that i can only imagine that i wont care about the drawbacks of the thin horn 30". and i can always rehandle it :)

*im 5' 10" and 135lbs, to give an idea of size for the pics...*

replacing the arm and ak shot with a better perspective

and a shot of the handle slab :) with wood style grain paterns... (its darker in person then it is with the flash, but its still really nice)

i love the handle shape and size on this... i wonder how difficult it would be to fill in the area between the slab and the tang, so that its completely smooth between the two (it looks like a minor amount of shrinkage in the laha near the base of the handle slabs, nothing to worry about, just something i could fix fairly easily)... i also wonder how had it would be to replace slabs on a chiruwa ak?.

is high polish horn more or less likely to lose moisture? cause if high polish verses satin finished horn are about even for long term durability, i think im going to sand it down a little.... having this slip out of the hand could be devestating....

Wildman:

Thanks to you and Seth for responding. How in the hell I miss some of these threads is beyond me. I totally missed Uncle's posting on the 14th, and then did not log on again until Sunday after requesting info on Friday. I have wanted specifically to ask Uncle Bill about a 25" AK, a 30" GS, and to inquire about the possibility of a 30" Chitlangi (which to me would be the ultimate large blade because it is so incredibly well balanced), but did not want to bother him with anything that could be preceived as a special order in light of his health. And now 8 of them come along! Damn, damn, triple-damn!

Anyway, I just sent a mail tonight and am hoping that my oversight will be overlooked, to coin a phrase.

Thanks again,

Norm

the 30 sirupati is realy forward balanced... reeeeealy forward balanced....

i think that with things like the gelbu special, ang khola and i assume the chitlangi, its not such a hassle to order larger versions, because you can just say "30" ang khola" and they'll know what you want...

but, i can only imageing how much of a hassle it is to ship a 30" blade from napal to reno, and then from reno to wherever in the us/world it needs to go. (not to mention expensive (shipping))

just got done taking the shine off of shiva with some sand paper... cause i reeealy dont want this handle to be slippery.

im not sure how coarse i want it to be/what is best for horn... should i keep it satin finished, or get it nice and gritty with say a 220 finish?

Try the scotchbrite ( or whatever they call it ) on the back of a kitchen sponge. Yvsa suggested it for a satin finish of the horn.

high polish = better moisture resistance

better yet if you wax it every once in a while - also improves the grip

A blade slipping out of your hand is no fun, but can generally be avoided by switching hands while working (20 hits with strong hand, 5 with the weak - just enough to cool your hand down), as well as improving your swing. Once you figure out how to make the rings work to your advantage, you find that you don't need as hard of a grip (don't have to squeeze as hard).

Seth:

The horn handle shrunk a little bit on my chiruwa and still may be shrinking a little. What I did was file the tang (carefully) flush with the horn and fill in gaps between horn & tang with superglue - dribbling in several layers a little at a time. I may have to file a bit more sometime this year but it is no big deal to do this. It wouldn't have to be done at all but I like the handles to be completely smooth feeling.

400-grit sandpaper give the ultimate finish on horn handles IMHO. The wetter the handle gets, the more non-stick it feels.
