I took a chance and bid on a Military on Flea-Bay. I won the auction for $30 and it just arrived today. This is my first Mili and I wasn't sure I'd love it. WOW, this knife rocks! And for $30, it's my best Spydie bargain yet!

I'll attach a pic of the ebay auction, but this knife looks so much better in person. It's in perfect condition! It's much bigger than I imagined, but I don't mind good-sized folders. Are all mili's clips polished steel? Mine came polished. I'm sure my version is a tad older. CPM 440V Steel G-10 Scales. But for $30, I'll take it (and love it). The picture make it look horrible. I'm sure if the seller was a better photographer, this knife would have sold for MUCH more...

Sorry for the poor quality. Good thing I'm not trying to sell it :)

The blade says:
"Spyderco"
"Military"
"CPM 440V Gulden, CO USA"

Great price- shouldn't feel bad about using it as an EDC/beater-
Even a Millie w/ some miles on it will give you great service.

I'd have paid $30 for a military that looked as bad as the one in the picture. Even Sal says that spydercos are for using, not for looking. As long as there's no structural dammage to it, a spyderco will work just as well.

Can anyone tell me about the clip? Is is supposed to be polished. Mine is, and I was wondering if is a mod or original. Looks good, either way.

Also, I noticed the grind is all on one side (SE). There's a good inch of PE at the tip, and I want to sharpen it. Any tips with the sharpmaker on this knife?

Thanks.

That grind is common on serrated knives. You can either alter the grind by sharpening equally on both sides, or just sharpen primarily on the side with the secondary bevel, and then finish up with a couple of strokes on the side without it.

I hope you like... I'm not really all that horrible of a photographer. Just equipmentally & locationally challenged. These pics show off the condition of the knife a little better. It's still dirty (my direct flash lighting shows all the dust), but it's a "clean" knife condition-wise. When looking at these pictures, just think $30...

I'll give you $32. :D

Nice grab. A picture is worth a thousand words (or at least $40 in this case).

You are certainly right about one thing. I was watching that auction, and if his photo hadn't made it look like the tip had a half inch broken off and rounded on a grinder, you wouldn't have gotten it for $30 :D If it had been PE, you wouldn't have gotten it for that even if the picture was right ;) Nice snag.

so , how is this knife going?

Going strong as an EDC knife. I carry my Manix most days, and this Mili when I need something a tad more descreet... Funny, it shows a bit of my personality, when I'm calling a Millie "Descreet"... :D

Still loving the knife! And of course, I'm very proud of the deal I got. It makes carrying it all the sweeter.

That's an awesome deal for such a great knife. I'm gonna start looking on ebay more often.

NO DON'T!!! lol How will I get a good deal if you're looking also?

In all seriousness, this was a fluke. I've been looking on ebay for many months and RARELY do I find great deals at all, much less like this. And I check the listings several times a day...

Be my guest if you want to check, just let me know if you find anything ;)

:p

Excellent buy! One of my first spydies was an used, older ATS-34 Military. (not quite at your price though) Was amazed at the ergos, functionality and weight of the knife... I think getting a used, older higher production Spyderco is often as good or better than purchasing a new basic model. Nothing wrong with going "old school"...
