Word of the Year Knife

For the past few years, in place of New Year's Resolutions, I've instead chosen a word that embodies what I want to focus on for the year. I've found various ways to keep the word top-of-mind throughout the year - artistic photos on my desk, computer/phone wallpapers, etc. - but they've never been anything I wanted to hold onto long-term. This year I decided to put the word on my pocket knife. I brought it to a local laser-engraver and $20 later I had my word of the year.

It's something I carry with me daily, and unlike past years, it's an object I plan to keep long term. For me, it brings a deeper way to appreciate my knives, and a cool/fun way to grow my collection. I think it'll be fun to look back through the years via knives and I figured I would share in case anyone finds the idea valuable. If you decide to do something similar, post a pic of your knife. Here's 2021 for me.

Definitely a cool idea if you plan to keep the knife or gift it away, otherwise it would severely hurt the retail value. Maybe you could also do it with custom scales, that way you can return it to original if need be.

I think my word would be "confused" or "hungry". Those are my two general states of being.

Neat idea, nicely done on the Malibu!

For me, Benchmade does nice laser engraving, had these 2 done to make them more special. Plus makes it harder for the kids to sell once I'm gone!

I think it’s a fantastic idea on multiple levels; from choosing a word that embodies a significant aspiration, ideal or commitment to focus on for a year...all the way to lending a truly personalized and meaningful embellishment to a knife.

And I think you’re right, it’ll be a great thing to look back on these years from now to see how those words may have impacted the stories and memories embedded in the knife. Did the knife guide you to a better decision at a key moment, help you get through a difficult time or keep you from making a catastrophic mistake?

Ok, maybe I’m romanticizing this a wee bit.....but I’m really, really diggin’ the whole concept here, and I hope it serves you well in whatever capacity you’re envisioning.

Again, I think it’s a wonderful idea. Enjoy!
