Hi all. A year or so ago I purchased a Timberline/Worden liner lock (the big one). The other day I tried the spine whack test on it. I really didn't really hit it too hard, The lock failed. I have tried tightening screws, manually repositioning the lock - all to no avail. Does anyone know how I can improve this mechanism? If not, do you think Timberline would fix/replace the knife. I really do like it.

Thanks, Dave

Sorry to hear that.I have the large Worden and it passed the whack test with no prob. You might have gotten a bad one.I'm not sure how to remedy the problem.Good Luck with it,because I love this knife.

I agree that the Timberline folder is a great knife. I had tried the spine whack test before with no problems. I took the knife apart last night and "bent" the spring liner forward a bit. This improved the lock hold somewhat. Now I really have to bang it or hit it hard near the handle before the liner fails. Going to do some more work on it today. I don't forsee any situations where it will fail on me (given how hard I have to hit it). But I still can't totally trust it as an EDC (yet).
I have several knives with all different locking mechanisms; I agree the liner lock isn't my favorite, but for the price of that knife It is a great bargain. Maybe mine does have a flaw, If I cant fix it to my satisfaction I will call Timberline and get their take on the problem. ( but i'm pretty sure they will consider a spine whack abuse, all I can do is try. Thanks for the input, Dave
