Work boots?...

I've worn a pair of 5ys old matterhorns for the past 3-4yrs (8-9yrs total:) Not too bad for absolutely no leather care! But they are finally wearing out, and the sole's detaching from the uppers.

I was going to get redwings, but too many guys on the job sites have had them fall apart (which is alright durring the summer, but can be downright dangerous in the cold of the winter on a wet site).

Now I'm trying out a pair of US made Iron Age boots, completely safisfied with them too, especially considering the great price!

Just curious what everyone's work boot preference is & why...

I've never heard of Red Wings falling apart either. Possible, maybe, with their imported line (Worx, I think the name is). But I've heard nothing but good things about their American made shoes. I've been wearing their 8" model 402s all summer. Superb quality and comfort.

Well,I stick with USA made shoes,or I'd consider something made say in England or Germany etc.You can keep the Asian cheap garbage though.I used to wear Matterhorns, very good boots, reasonable priced for their quality.I also use Danner Domestic made boots,I like them very much.Redwings have a USA made line, and I'm sure they won't fall apart, good prices also.

not bad for $88.00, I have worn them for past year in pretty harsh conditions and have no complaints

White's lace-to -toe Smoke Jumpers or any of their other styles that suit you. Best wishes.

RedWing 4473s baby! I just had a pair finally split out after 6 years and 1 resole. Still good for yardwork and nasty jobs.

Military Jump Boots... chem resistant soles, more than enough grip and support.

Bought this pair in spring, last pair of army boots got 3.5yrs of daily wear... not bad for 40cad.

I won't ware anything but Red Wings at work. The pair I'm using now are going on close to 2 yrs which is unheard of for me.(this is in a welding pressure vessel fabrication shop and doing refinery work) For a combination of comfort and durability I have not found a match. The one time I had a problem was with a sole seperating when they came out with a new two piece sole. The boots were six months old and the dealer replaced the boots without even a thought, the sole problem has never happend agan. They are pricey with gortex but like most things you get what you pay for.

I wore a pair of Red Wing firefighter work boots with the zipper front for several years with no problems except for a couple of zipper replacements, and resoled three times. (I can't remember the exact model number) I have never heard of any Red Wing boots 'giving up'. I wore my Red Wing's on many wildland/ brush fires, and they didn't even wimper.

I now wear a pair of Carhartt waterproof midtops (they are made by Red Wing), and they are very comfortable. This set is a year old next month, and they show very little wear in the soles. No wear in the leather whatsoever. Also, I work in a machine shop, exposing my boots to coolant, metal chips, and oils.

I have worn Georgia workboots in the past, and will not wear them again. My last pair of those gave up after only wearing them for three weeks. The soles split out, and the inside of the boot had some sort of defect in the heel portion. The previous pair of Georgia's lasted just shy of a month, and had the same problems.

My vote is for Red Wings or the Carhartt's.

Damn straight. I use redwings myself. I have a pair of pullons (basically cowboy boots without all the bells and whistles) that has served me well for 2 years. I just had them re-soled and I'd give them another 2 years.

Carolina's here.
On my second pair in 7 years. Comfortable , not too pricey and made to last.

What sort of features make a work boot...a work boot? Does it have to have a steel toe ? Or is it any boot you're comfortable working in?

I was also wondering how often do you change the insoles in your work boots? I find it hard to find replacement insoles for my boots.

I'd heard nothing but great things about them as well. I was a inspector/safety officer on a site where out of the 6 laborers, three had soles that either wore out prematurely, or the sole seperate from the upper in under a year. Then again, they all had the same model (which was replaced free of charge), maybe it was a certian 'run' of boots that was bad...

Wolverine DuraShocks. They fit me better and last longer than the other brands I've tried. Never had a complaint of any kind even when in them 16-24 hours at a time, and you can wear them down to nothing without them falling apart.
