As some of you guys might have noticed, I like nothing more than stripped blades. They provide me with a somewhat blank canvas to play around with.

I had some shots last week of my SASH1 that I stripped, hand-satined and fully convexed.

Well I just recieved my first FBM last week, and I have started a project to really make it look great and perform just as well!

I am currently about 6 hours of sanding in right now, and have thinned the edge a good bit, and have almost all the decarb removed from the bottom corrugation to the edge. I plan on polishing what I have taken off already, and leaving the rest of the blade dull and grey, giving a two-tone effect.

My question that I have, should I continue and finish the whole blade to a polished finish ( I plan on leaving the CBT, but sanding in the divots)?

I am undecided, and I'd like some input from you guys......

Ill keep pictures going on this one as I get further into the project, so stay tuned...

I still have a little ways to go to finish phase 1, but I plan on having it done by the end of the weekend......Stay tuned!

I want to do this to my cgfbm. Can you explain how. I work at Lowes, so i have access to sandpaper. If you have the time, can you share the information on how to achieve this. I am not sure what grit of sandpaper to use for the different stages, do you tape off the handle, or remove the slabs? What do you use to strip it? I need an idiots tutorial on how to strip and polish a knife if you would be so kind. i love these Busse knives, and it really gives you a feel of accomplishment and closeness to your blade when you can work on it yourself. This looks awesome! Keep us posted. Cortney

Cool! Sanding between the corrugations is a real biatch! I have a stripped hell razor that I briefly started trying to make pretty before deciding against it.

It's pretty rough in there and I wasn't willing to invest the time/beer in the project. Sometimes fugly is pretty. It's all a matter of your point of view.

Once you start hacking down trees with it... she will be pretty to you... no matter what she looks like on the outside. ;)

I completely agree, I like the look of the dimples in the bare INFI. It makes it look more rugged and purposeful IMO. My problem is that I have a habit of sanding/sharpening for a Zen-like release......

I'll see one thing I'd like changed, and next thing you know its 3-4 hrs later and half the blade is smoothed out.......

Stripping is pretty easy, sanding takes work. It only took five minutes to strip my HH the other day. Here's one I did before:

Heck if the stripping is something you enjoy go ahead and strip the rest.
It looks great, but think it would look better fully stripped.

Lookin good, and thanks for the pics:thumbup:

I love that shine on the edge, stands out so much. I wouldn't know what do to if I were you either, it looks mad hot now. I'd say go ahead and strip and polish it and see what happens, I think it can only get better...

Lol. I have seen a buffer, a man, and a Mistress, Battle before,, the mistress flew! The buffer turned into a spyder monkey, and the man lost, Skin.. Be careful with those mang,,

Why don't you go the whole hog and file off those ugly ridges? Take off the ridges and you'll have a much nicer blade. My 2 sense!

I recall reading on the Makers forum that the buffer is the most dangerous tool in the shop.

i was thinking of using a Dremel with the cone shaped buffer on it for the corrugations.......
Thanks evryone for showing your opinions on my project! i feel like a little kid again doing Show and Tell!

You've done a great job so far but I'd say that you leave it as it is. It exudes a 'rugged' feeling that I like, much like my stripped HH.

They always look better stripped and without dimples (to me)

I love satin finish.

Good job so far

I too would be interested to read the sand paper grit progression. That edge looks pretty awesome. I am undecided about the partial stripping of the coating. My guess is that for some of the coating colors that would be a really cool effect, I just don't know if yours is one of them.

I'd love to see that...I think you ended up with "my" HHFSH (you got it from Brian, right?) Still attached to this blade :o No regrets, of course :D

I dont know if you can tell from the shots, but the knife is stripped....
The grey remaining is the decarb layer underneath.. I am impressed with the relative lack of INFI dimples on the FBM.

Nice looking so far. I like infi dimples, so no worries. I need to strip my Ash1 cg, now that the coating is becoming rough. The naked infi looks great, and I find is much easier to keep clean than the finish. I also convex my edges, so I think they look better stripped.

I need a CG FBM, My FBMLE with a convexed edge is a bit heavyI would like a thinner CG version.

I stripped my SS with a pumpkin handle, and the scales kinda got messed up a bit. They got lighter, and if you look closely you can see what look like individual glittery flecks of the fiberglass. I am glad it did not get the even stronger stripper. I only left it on for a while (15-20 minutes, which is what the direction called for. I should have taped off the scales before trying, but had heard it would not affect them).
