This is a longhunter style knife (with a twist) I'm in the middle of making. It'll be a mortised-tang with a rosewood handle, and have a mosaic pin in it when it's finished. I forged the guard out of 120 year old wrought iron my grandparents found in the late 50's when they were building their house. The iron came from a wrapped-eye axe head that was rusted beyond salvage. I cut it into pieces, cleaned up a large chunk of the poll, and forged it down into this guard. I'll post more pics when I get the thing all finished up. Specs -
- 16 3/4 inches overall, 11 5/8" blade
- 800 grit finish (that's why it's taped
)
- forged 1080, finished with a soft back draw
- wrought iron guard, made from a roughly 9" long billet
