Does anyone know of a good work knife, the kind that takes standard box cutter blades? I have the SK2 Superknife but I am looking for something that is a little sturdier. Suggestions?

I know this is not what you are looking for but my dodo is the best box cutter ever! I find it totally useless outside of work but at work it's indespensible1 !

I had one of those folding box cutter knives and while it was great while I was working on the house painting and removing wallpaper, it is heavy and unwieldy at work.

I use a Spyderco Salt 1 fully serrated for my work. I cut up about 8-10 large cardboard boxes a day. I sharpen it every 3 months. Tough H-1 steel.

To answer the actual question asked, both Husky and Scheffield put out a sturdy, all metal folding utility knife. Being metal handles, they are more rigid, and to me less comfortable, than the Superknife, as well as being heavier in the pocket. I prefer the Scheffield because the clip is mounted closer to the pivot, making the whole thing ride lower in the pocket. The Husky rides high enough to flop out of the pocket if it is clipped in a loose cargo pocket. The Scheffields are available at WalMart here, the Husky I got at Home Depot (I think. It has been a while).

I really like the SK2. Best design of this type of knife, IMO.

There is the Stanly Quickslide, which is available at Walmart. It retracts in a different way than most, is heftier than the SK2 and more comfortable in my hand. It doesn't accept "contractor grade" .040" blades. It uses a very simple tool-less blade change system, so simple, I wonder why nobody else hadn't used it. Also has a pocket clip. It's really pretty decent and inexpensive.

The plain old Stanley 99 or the million of generic copies are often even better workhorses. But not very sexy as pocketknives.

I too have one of the Sheffields. Great knife for those tasks that you don't want to expose a real knife too. Despite the relative heft, it isn't too heavy, and is very good quality.
