I finished up the adjustable work rest for the 14” wheel today.

The post that the rest is attached to is 1” diameter steel it is keyed so it does not spin when trying to adjust the height. The work rest support arm that extends out from the main tool arm is ¾” thick 1-1/2” wide steel. The height is easily adjusted by loosening the socket head cap screw.

that came out great! however, is it difficult to clean up the floor mat with all the grinder dust?

I really find a rest that extends in past the wheel a little on each side very helpful. Have you considered it?

Looks like a fine build and I believe it work like a wizz !!! No need to build another table that goes around the edges which I find exceptionally handy at times. I have a 1/8" plate that is cut like an "L" the same wideth of the table on the long side. I simply place this on the table and attach it with a clamp. Sure this is a multi usable piece because you can flip it for use on either side of the wheel. Frank

The balance is great. it runs smooth at 1500 r.p.m. which is about 5600 surface feet. So far I don't see any need to run any faster than that, but I have not used it that much yet.

The rest looks nice and it looks like you built this wheel too (Greg was asking about the balance.) Is it wood? Does it have some sort of rubber on the outer edge?

Thanks, -M

Didn't realize there was still a question hanging on this thread.

Michael, Yes the wheel is made of 1/2" MDF pieces laminated together and turned round on a lathe. No I do not have any contact area on the wheel. I had originally planned on using leather, but have been using the wheel as is with good results.
