Work Sharp Anyone have one

This looks like an interesting Sharper:

79 bucks...might be worth it. I want to know can it do convex like a 1" belt sander.

You will find quite a bit of discussion over on the maintenance board concerning this. Your question will get more answers over on that board.

Ok went thru the thread...I think I am in!! I also read a ton of in depth reviews. This seems like a total no brainer!! Am I missing something here?

Going back to your original post, it will not do convex grinds. The belt tension is pre-set and cannot be adjusted. It sounds like a pretty good tool assuming you only need V grind edges at 40 degrees inclusive in your knives.

What about with out the guides? Have you used it?

Yes, you're probably right about removing the guides and freehanding lesser angles. But that was not something I needed so I didn't ask that question. I think that's a good question to ask the reviewer in Maintenance, Tinkering & Embellishment.

I have not. My comments were based on some questions I asked the manufacturer. I was hoping for something that can handle Scandi grinds and convex grinds but the answer was "never tried Scandi grinds" and "no" for convex. - EDIT - I guess the belt has some flex to it so it will apply a shallow convex curve on the edge. I don't think this is the same as the full convex edge that's applied using slack belts on a full size belt machine. So I guess the answer to the convex question is, "sort of" :) Which also means this is something between a V edge and a true convex edge.
