does anyone have experience with the strop kit for the BGA? I have a strop I use afte sharpening but I’ve just been so damn impressed by the worksharp that I’m considering trying out the strop kit.

Thanks

Since no one else has replied:

I don’t have the BGA, but I do have aftermarket leather belts for my WSKO. They work quite well when finishing off a sharpening session. I coated mine with the green compound. I notice a difference using them as far as sharpness.

For day to day use, I have a traditional strop that I use instead of taking out the WSKO and installing the leather belt.

Hope this helps.

I have the cloth strop kit - the edges start fraying quickly. After a few uses it's hard to tell which belt has which compound since they both turn black so keep them segregated. they do work.

I had the same problem with the frayed edges. When I checked, I discovered my blades were actually sharper pre stropping belts, and just off the 12,000 belt. So, I got a 12,000 good and worn and I am impressed at how sharp I can get my knives on that system. I have set aside the stropping belts for a while. I received a new stropping kit and the belts in it seem to be made of different material; maybe these will not fray. It may be a while before I find out.

Would suggest a bench strop of whatever material you prefer and diamond or cbn paste/spray.

I think more experimentation is needed. Checking sharpness between belts will yield valuable information. I purchased 2 leather strops for the BGA, and am experiencing the same phenomena with them as well. One of those leather belts I treated with .25 micron paste. I quickly re sharpened a cheap kitchen knife to an impressive sharpness with just the leather strop with the .25 micron paste. They have value, I just haven't figured them out yet, and now I am more focused on my Wicked Edge system. With the leather strops on the BGA I think an angle adjustment to compensate for the difference in belt thickness may be key to get the results I want; I just haven't tried it yet.

Tagged for interest as I just purchased the BGA and a strop kit. I have not tried to strop yet.

I ended up buying the strop kit...I’d say it produces very similar results to a hand strop just about a million times faster. Really gives a nice polish on the edge
